Jagdish Joshi
Jagdish Joshi (1937–2016) was an Indian children's book illustrator. Born in 1937, he studied fine arts at the Indian College of Arts and Draftsmanship, Dum Dum, Kolkata, and later worked for the ''Hindustan Times'' and Children's Book Trust. He also illustrated several books for the National Book Trust and remained "one of most sought after" illustrators in children's literature in India through the 1990s. Fine Art
In European academic traditions, fine art is developed primarily for aesthetics or creative expression, distinguishing it from decorative art or applied art, which also has to serve some practical function, such as pottery or most metalwork. In the aesthetic theories developed in the Italian Renaissance, the highest art was that which allowed the full expression and display of the artist's imagination, unrestricted by any of the practical considerations involved in, say, making and decorating a teapot. It was also considered important that making the artwork did not involve dividing the work between different individuals with specialized skills, as might be necessary with a piece of furniture, for example. Dum Dum
Dum Dum is a city and a municipality of Kolkata district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is a part of Kolkata urban area and also a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). Etymology During the 19th century the area was home to the Dum Dum Arsenal, a British Royal Artillery facility. Hans Christian Andersen Award
The Hans Christian Andersen Awards are two literary awards given by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), recognising one living author and one living illustrator for their "lasting contribution to children's literature". The writing award was first given in 1956, the illustration award in 1966. The former is sometimes called the "Nobel Prize for children's literature". The awards are named after Hans Christian Andersen, the 19th-century Danish author of fairy tales, and each winner receives the Hans Christian Andersen Medaille (a gold medal with the bust of Andersen) and a diploma. The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) is an international non-profit organization committed to bringing books and children together. The headquarters of the IBBY are located in Basel, Switzerland. Arup Kumar Datta is an Indian writer and Journalist from Guwahati, Assam. He has written 18 books for adults and 17 adventure novels for young people . In 2014 he was awarded the Life Time Achievement Honour by Association of Writers and illustrators for Children, New Delhi, the Indian chapter of the International Board of Books for Young People. Arvind Krishna Mehrotra (born 1947) is an Indian poet, anthologist, literary critic and translator. Biography Arvind Krishna Mehrotra was born in Lahore in 1947. He has published six collections of poetry in English and two of translation — a volume of Prakrit love poems, ''The Absent Traveller'', recently reissued in Penguin Classics, and ''Songs of Kabir'' (NYRB Classics). Bharat Bhushan Agarwal
Bharat Bhushan Agarwal (born 3 August 1919 – 23 June 1975) was a Hindi litterateur and poet who has been honored by Sahitya Akademi in 1978 for their poem Utna Vah Suraj Hai.
