Jagannath Sarkar (BJP Politician)
Jagannath Sarkar (born 2 January 1963) is an Indian politician who has been a Member of Lok Sabha for Ranaghat since 2019. Personal life Sarkar was born on 2 January 1963 to Bhim Chandra Sarkar and Nani Bala Sarkar in Tashuli village of Bankura district, West Bengal. He graduated with Bachelor of Arts from Santipur College in 1984 and Bachelor of Education degree from Kalyani University in 1986-1987. He married Arpita Sarkar (Baidya) on 2 November 1999, with whom he has a son and a daughter. Sarkar is a teacher and farmer by profession. Political career Sarkar is the general secretary of the Nadia district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party. On 10 April 2019, the party nominated him for the 2019 Indian general election from the Ranaghat constituency, after the nomination of Mukatmoni Adhikari was rejected. Bankura District
Bankura district (Pron: bãkuɽa) is an administrative unit in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is part of Medinipur division—one of the five administrative divisions of West Bengal. Bankura district is surrounded by Purba Bardhaman district and Paschim Bardhaman district in the north, Purulia district in the west, Jhargram district and Paschim Medinipur district in the south, and some part of Hooghly district in the east. Damodar River flows in the northern part of Bankura district and separates it with the major part of Burdwan district. The district head quarter is located in Bankura town. Ranaghat is a city and a municipality in Nadia district in the state of West Bengal, India. It is the headquarters of the Ranaghat subdivision. It is compact but one of the densely populated cities of West Bengal. It is known for its handloom industry, various types of flowers and floriculture and a flower market. History After independence Ranaghat was chosen to be the district capital but later Krishnanagar city was selected instead. Ranaghat has existed since the British invaded India. The most likely origin for the name of the town comes from Rani (Queen) or Rana (a Rajput warrior) and Ghat (steps leading to the river). Nadia () is a district in the state of West Bengal, India.
