''Jaganmohini'' is a 1951 Kannada film by D. Shankar Singh. It is about a seductress who falls in love with a prince and tries to steal him from his fiancée. It starred Harini who made her debut at the age of 14. Harini became the first Kannada heroine to wear a swimsuit on-screen. The movie was infamous for its censor problems. Despite this, the film become a box office hit and had a 100-days run. B. Vittalacharya remade it in Telugu in 1978 as '' Jaganmohini'', which also went on to be remade in Tamil in 1978. Harini is a former actress in the Kannada cinema. She was active during the 1950s and 1960s, retiring at the peak of her career. As of 2006 she lived in Bangalore. Early life Harini was born to Srinivasa Upadhya and Bharathi in Udupi as their fourth child. Her brother Vadiraj was also an actor and producer. She appeared as a child artist in films like '' Sri Murugan'' and ''Kannika'' for which she received one rupee for delivering the dialogues very nicely. She became a full-fledged heroine through Tamil film '' Punyavathi''. Career Harini made her debut as leading lady in ''Jaganmohini'' in the role of Mohini at the age of 15. Prathima Devi (9 April 1933 – 6 April 2021) was an Indian actress known for her work in Kannada films. Devi made her debut through the 1947 film ''Krishnaleela''. She starred in the lead role in ''Jaganmohini (1951 film), Jaganmohini'' (1951), the first Kannada film to complete 100 days at the box-office. She went on to appear in over 60 films. Biography Devi was born as Mohini on 9 April 1933 in Kalladka, a town in the erstwhile South Canara region of Madras Presidency (in present-day Karnataka), to Upendra Shenoy and Saraswatibai, as the last of their four children. Devi lost her father when she was four or five years old; the family moved to Mangalore, then to Ahmedabad, where her brother-in-law ran a textile business, before settling in Udupi. ''Jaganmohini'' () is a 1978 Telugu-language drama film produced and directed by B. Vittalacharya. The movie was a remake of the 1951 Kannada movie '' Jaganmohini''. The film stars Narasimha Raju, Prabha and Jayamalini. The film was dubbed in Tamil. ''Jaganmohini'' became a major hit and even performed better than the films of big stars. ''Jaganmohini'' is a 2009 Indian Tamil-language horror film directed by N. K. Viswanathan. It is based on B. Vittalacharya's cult horror film of the same name which itself was a remake of 1951 Kannada film '' Jaganmohini''. It stars Raja, Namitha and Nila. It was partially reshot into Telugu with the same name (with Ali replacing Vadivelu) and dubbed in Bengali as Mayabini Kanya. The film bombed at the box office.
