Jaffray, British Columbia
Jaffray, British Columbia () is an unincorporated village in southeast British Columbia. As of the RDEK 2011 census, the population was 82 spread over a rural area of roughly 44 square kilometres. History Jaffray was formerly a siding, depot and steam train water stop. In the early 1900s Robert Jaffray and several of his brothers worked at the local sawmills, eventually leaving and homesteading in Lacombe, Alberta, and even though some local people believed that Jaffray may have been named after the brothers, according to folklore, Jaffray had already been named by the time they came to the area. Frank Desrosier may have been the first resident to purchase land in the Jaffray town-site, purchasing District Lot 3055. In September 1900, Robert Elmsby received a crown grant on D.L. 3543, obtaining for two hundred dollars, including most of what is now Jaffray proper. Jaffray Baronets
The Jaffray Baronetcy, of Skilts in the Parish of Studley in the County of Warwick, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 8 October 1892 for the journalist and newspaper proprietor John Jaffray. He was the co-founder of the ''Birmingham Post'' and ''Birmingham Mail''. The second Baronet was High Sheriff of Warwickshire in 1906. The fourth Baronet, Sir William Edmund Jaffray, was a Colonel in the Warwickshire Yeomanry and a deputy lieutenant of Warwickshire. The fifth and present baronet succeeded to the title as an infant on his father's death. He was educated at Eton and in 1981 married Cynthia Ross Corrington, a daughter of John Corrington III, of Montreal. They have three sons and a daughter and are divorced. Jason Jaffray (born June 30, 1981) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey left winger. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames and the Winnipeg Jets before finishing his career with EHC München of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Playing career Jaffray appeared in five seasons of major junior in the Western Hockey League. He played six games for the Edmonton Ice in 1997–98 before they relocated to Cranbrook, British Columbia the following season, becoming the Kootenay Ice. John Jaffray (journalist)
Sir John Jaffray, 1st Baronet (11 October 1818 – 4 January 1901) was a Scottish journalist and newspaper proprietor. Born in Stirling, he moved to Birmingham in 1844, to work for John Frederick Feeney on the '' Birmingham Journal'', and became a partner in it in 1852. Together they founded the ''Birmingham Daily Post'', (now ''Birmingham Post'') in 1857. He founded the ''Birmingham Mail'' with Feeney's son John Feeney in 1870. William Jaffray (6March 183229September 1896) was an English-born publisher and politician in Waterloo County, Ontario, Canada. He served as the mayor of Berlin, Ontario ( which is now known as Kitchener) from 1882 to 1883. Biography William Jaffray was born on 6 March 1832 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. His father, Peter Jaffray, was born in 1800 in Stirlingshire, Scotland.
