Jade Melbourne
Jade Melbourne (born 18 August 2002) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Seattle Storm of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She plays for the Australia women's national basketball team, Australian national team. She represented Australia at the 2021 FIBA Women's Asia Cup, where the team won the bronze medal. WNBA career Seattle Storm Melbourne was selected in the Third Round of the 2022 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm. Melbourne, her agent, and the Storm agreed that Melbourne would stay over in Australia and play another season in the Women's National Basketball League, WNBL. This meant that Melbourne would not participate in the 2022 WNBA season. On February 20, 2023, Melbourne signed her rookie contract with the Storm and came over to participate in training camp. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL). Several WNBL teams have NBL counterparts. 2022 WNBA Season
The 2022 WNBA season was the 26th season of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Chicago Sky were the defending champions. The WNBA's second Commissioner's Cup took place during the regular season, with the Las Vegas Aces winning over the Sky. In the playoffs, the Aces were the first seed and won the Finals over the Connecticut Sun. The regular season was expanded to 36 games per team, is the most games scheduled in a single WNBA season. A 36-game season was originally scheduled for 2020, but the plan was scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This season also marked the return of an all-series playoffs, which was last used in 2015, instead of the prior schedule of two rounds of single-elimination games and byes for the higher seeded teams.
