Jacques-Henry Rys
Jacques-Henry Rys (1909–1960) was a 20th-century French composer and conductor. In the late 1940s and during the 1950s, Jacques-Henry Rys was a renowned conductor of light music, who led many recordings for major pop stars of the era, including Luis Mariano, Andrex, Yvette Giraud, Georges Guétary. He also assumed control of many variety shows on the radio. Jacques-Henry Rys became known by the quality of the orchestrations of the first operetta by Francis Lopez, which contributed to its success: ' (1945) of which he conducted the first performances at the Casino Montparnasse, ''Andalousie'' (1947), ''Quatre jours à Paris'' (1948), ''Monsieur Bourgogne'' (1949), ' (1952), ''Tête de Linotte'' (in collaboration with Paul Bonneau, 1957). Luis Mariano
Luis Mariano Eusebio González García (13 August 1914 – 14 July 1970), also known as Luis Mariano, was a popular tenor of Spanish origin who achieved celebrity in 1946 with "La belle de Cadix" ("The Beautiful Lady of Cadix") an operetta by Francis Lopez. He appeared in the 1954 film ''Adventures of the Barber of Seville'' and ''Le Chanteur de Mexico'' (1957) and became popular in France as well as his native Spain. Biography Luis Mariano was born in Irun, Spain on 13 August 1914, the son of a garagiste and taxi-driver and showed interest in singing as a child. Yvette Giraud
Yvette Giraud (16 September 1916 – 3 August 2014) was a French traditional pop singer. Career Giraud began singing in 1946 with "Mademoiselle Hortensia", or ''La Danseuse est Créole''. With her husband, former ''Compagnon de la Chanson'' Marc Herrand, she wrote an autobiographical book in 2005, published by Editions du Signe in Strasbourg, about how she became internationally famous. Giraud was well known in Japan, where she sang for a long time, responding to the audience expectations since her first visit in 1955. She died in August 2014 at the age of 97. Awards and accolades On 14 February 1995 Giraud was awarded the Order of the Precious Wisteria Crown by the Emperor of Japan. Georges Guétary (), born Lambros Vorloou ( el, Λάμπρος Βορλόου ; February 8, 1915 – September 13, 1997) was a French singer, dancer, cabaret performer and film actor, best known for his role in the 1951 musical ''An American in Paris''. Early life and career Guétary was born in Alexandria, Egypt, to Greek parents. His father was a textile executive. He studied music in Egypt and in Paris, and made his stage debut in 1937. He performed as a singer and dancer with the famed chanteuse Mistinguett at the Casino de Paris. The British newspaper ''The Independent'' said at the time of his death that "part of Guétary's exotic charm, and much of his stage persona as a 'Latin lover' with a voice of creme Chantilly resided in his mischievous innocence combined with an erotic mystery inherent in his ancestry." Paul Bonneau
Paul Bonneau (14 September 1918 – 8 July 1995) was a French conductor, composer and arranger, whose career was mainly in the field of light music and films. Career Born in Moret-sur-Loing in 1918, Paul Bonneau studied music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris in the same class as Maurice Baquet, Henri Betti, Henri Dutilleux and Louiguy. He won the ''premier prix d'harmonie'' (1937) in the class of Jean Gallon, the ''premier prix de fugue'' (1942) in the class of Noël Gallon and the ''premier prix de composition'' (1945) in the class of Henri Büsser. In 1939, he was Army deputy chief of music and in 1945 was made director of music for the Republican Guard. André Robert Raimbourg (; 27 July 1917 – 23 September 1970), better known as André Bourvil (), and mononymously as Bourvil, was a French actor and singer best known for his roles in comedy films, most notably in his collaboration with Louis de Funès in the films '' Le Corniaud'' (1965) and ''La Grande Vadrouille'' (1966). For his performance in ''Le Corniaud'', he won a Special Diploma at the 4th Moscow International Film Festival. Biography His father was killed in the First World War before Bourvil was born.
