Jacqueline Humphrey
Jacqueline Humphrey-Corbin (née Humphrey, formerly Tompkins; born September 30, 1965) is an American former hurdler. She won the 100 metres hurdles title at the 1988 US Olympic Trials and went on to compete in the women's 100 metres hurdles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, where she reached the semifinals. Career Humphrey ran her lifetime best 100m hurdles time of 12.83 secs to win the second semifinal at the 1988 US Olympic Trials, before going on to win the final later the same day in 12.88, to defeat Gail Devers (12.90) and LaVonna Martin (192.93) and earn Olympic selection. Hurdling
Hurdling is the act of jumping over an obstacle at a high speed or in a sprint. In the early 19th century, hurdlers ran at and jumped over each hurdle (sometimes known as 'burgles'), landing on both feet and checking their forward motion. Today, the dominant step patterns are the 3-step for high hurdles, 7-step for low hurdles, and 15-step for intermediate hurdles. Hurdling is a highly specialized form of obstacle racing, and is part of the sport of athletics. In hurdling events, barriers known as hurdles are set at precisely measured heights and distances. Each athlete must pass over the hurdles; passing under or intentionally knocking over hurdles will result in disqualification. Accidental knocking over of hurdles is not cause for disqualification, but the hurdles are weighted to make doing so disadvantageous. 1991 USA Outdoor Track And Field Championships
The 1991 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships took place between June 13–15 at Downing Stadium on Randall's Island in New York City. This was the last USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships organized by The Athletics Congress. The following year's Olympic Trials served as the National Championships during the last year of TAC's existence.
