Jacqueline Foster
Jacqueline Foster, Baroness Foster of Oxton, (''née'' Renshaw) is a British Conservative politician and a former Member of the European Parliament for the North West England region. In October 2019 she was appointed Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. In December 2020, it was announced she would be conferred a Life Peerage after a nomination by Prime Minister Boris Johnson as part of the 2020 Political Honours. In January 2021, she was elevated to the Lords as Baroness Foster of Oxton, of Oxton in the County of Merseyside. Early career Jacqueline Foster was born in Liverpool and educated at Prescot Girls' Grammar School. She worked for British Airways for more than twenty years. Between 1981 and '85 she left British Airways and became Area Manager in Austria for Horizon, a British Tour Operator before returning to British Airways four years later. 1994 Eastleigh By-election
The 1994 Eastleigh by-election was a parliamentary by-election held on 9 June 1994 for the United Kingdom House of Commons constituency of Eastleigh in Hampshire. The seat had fallen vacant because of the death of Conservative Party Member of Parliament (MP) Stephen Milligan on 7 February. The result of the election was a gain for the Liberal Democrats on a large swing. A disastrous result for the Conservative Party saw them fall to third place. The election, along with the EU elections and three other by-elections held that day, were the first election that the newly formed UK Independence Party (UKIP) stood in, with Nigel Farage as the candidate; Farage went on to become the leader of UKIP in 2006. 1992 United Kingdom General Election
The 1992 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday 9 April 1992, to elect 651 members to the House of Commons. The election resulted in the fourth consecutive victory for the Conservative Party since 1979 and would be the last time that the Conservatives would win an overall majority at a general election until 2015. It was also the last general election to be held on a day which did not coincide with any local elections until 2017. Twickenham is a House of Commons constituency in South-West London, represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Munira Wilson of the Liberal Democrats. The Bruges speech was given by British prime minister Margaret Thatcher to the College of Europe at the Belfry of Bruges, Belgium, on 20 September 1988. Thatcher was opposed to any moves to transition the European Economic Community (EEC) into a federal Europe that would take powers away from its members. She considered European Commission president Jacques Delors a campaigner for federalisation and clashed with him publicly.
