Jacobsen Manufacturing
Jacobsen Manufacturing has produced lawn mowers and light-duty tractors in the United States from the early 1920s until around 2020. They were located in Racine, Wisconsin from 1921 to 2001, when they moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. In 2017, Jacobsen moved from Charlotte to Augusta, Georgia. In 2020, it was announced they would relocate from Augusta, Georgia to their sister factory of Ransomes-Jacobsen in Ipswich, England, UK. They are currently owned by Textron since acquisition in 1975. History Jacobsen Manufacturing was founded around the turn of the 20th century as a pattern-making shop by Knud Jacobsen, a Danish immigrant who came to Racine, Wisconsin, in 1891. Miranda (formerly Jacobsen's) is a census-designated place in Humboldt County, California. It is located northwest of Phillipsville, at an elevation of . The ZIP Code is 95553. The population was 520 at the 2010 census. The name Miranda was originally applied to the area's post office on August 26, 1905. One account states that it is not known whether the name giver had in mind a girl or the well-known Spanish place name and family name. Miranda was known as Jacobsen's Valley until the post office was established. Another account states that Etta Coombs chose the name "Miranda" for the post office she started. Miranda is located on the Avenue of the Giants between Myers Flat to the north and Phillipsville to the south. Theodor Jacobsen Observatory
The Theodor Jacobsen Observatory is the on-campus observatory of the University of Washington. Built in 1895, it is the second oldest building on campus and was constructed using the remaining Tenino, Washington, Tenino sandstone blocks from Denny Hall, the oldest and first building on campus. The refracting telescope, enclosed within the dome, has a 6-inch L-3 Brashear, Brashear objective lens on a Warner & Swasey equatorial mount. The observatory also includes a transit telescope, transit room on the west side and a 45-seat classroom, which was built later, on the south side. Today, the observatory is primarily used for public outreach and is run jointly by the UW Department of Astronomy and the Seattle Astronomical Society. Every first and third Wednesday between April and September the observatory is open to the public.
