Jacob Wendell (actor)
Jacob Wendell III (April 13, 1869 – April 22, 1911) was an American actor who performed on Broadway. Early life Jake Wendell, as he was known, was born in New York City on April 13, 1869. He was the youngest son of Jacob Wendell Jr. (1826–1898) and Mary Bertodi ( Barrett) Wendell. His parents, who both came from wealthy families, married in Boston in 1854, about a year after his father had moved from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and joined the firm of J.C. Howe & Co. His elder brothers were Harvard professor Barrett Wendell (father of Barrett Wendell Jr.), Gordon Wendell, and philanthropist and athlete Evert Jansen Wendell. His paternal grandparents were Jacob Wendell Sr. and Mehitable Rindge ( Rogers) Wendell. Philip Richard Fendall I (1734–1805) was an influential banker, lawyer, and merchant in Alexandria, Virginia. He was a member of the Lee family and a friend and business partner to George Washington. Fendall constructed the Lee-Fendall House on the corner of Washington and Oronoco Streets as a lasting home for his family. Philip Richard Fendall II (December 18, 1794 – February 16, 1868) was an American lawyer and politician who served as the District Attorney of Washington, D.C. Early life He was born December 18, 1794, at the Lee-Fendall House, located at 614 Oronoco St., Alexandria, Virginia, to Philip Richard Fendall I and Mary ( Lee) Fendall of "Leesylvania". The Astor Theatre was located at 1537 Broadway, at West 45th Street in Times Square in New York City. It opened September 21, 1906, with Shakespeare's ''A Midsummer Night's Dream'' and continued to operate as a Broadway theatre until 1925. The Players (New York City)
The Players (often inaccurately called The Players Club) is a private social club founded in New York City by the noted 19th-century Shakespearean actor Edwin Booth. In 1888, Booth purchased an 1847 mansion at 16 Gramercy Park, reserved an upper floor for his residence, and turned the rest into a clubhouse. The building's interior and part of its exterior were designed by architect Stanford White; its entryway gaslights are among the few remaining examples in New York City.
