Jacob Henry Miller was a lawyer from the U.S. State of Ohio who served as President of the Ohio State Senate. Biography Jacob Henry Miller was born October 3, 1865 in Licking County, Ohio. He graduated from Bethany College in West Virginia with A.B., and from Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law with L.L.B. Miller was elected to the Ohio State Senate 1917–1918, and served as President of the Senate. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta Delta Tau Delta () is a United States-based international Greek letter college fraternity. List Of Presidents Of The Ohio Senate
The president of the Ohio State Senate is the leader of the Ohio State Senate. Under Ohio's first constitution, in effect from 1803 to 1851, the presiding officer of the senate was called the speaker. Starting in 1851, when the second constitution took effect, a new office of lieutenant governor was created. The new position of lieutenant governor carried with it the office of president of the senate, and was nominally the presiding officer of the senate. During this time, the actual legislative leader of the senate majority was the president pro tempore of the Ohio Senate. In the 1970s, another change was made, which made the office of lieutenant governor elected jointly with the governor. At this time, the duty of presiding over the senate was removed from the lieutenant governor's portfolio and the majority party of the senate began electing its own president starting in 1979. Delta Tau Delta () is a United States-based international Greek letter college fraternity. Delta Tau Delta was founded at Bethany College, Bethany, Virginia, (now West Virginia) in 1858. Charles John Howard
Charles John Howard (March 25, 1862 – May 13, 1928) was a legislator in both houses of the Ohio legislature around the turn of the nineteenth century. He was President of the Ohio Senate in 1915 and 1916. Charles John Howard was born at Barnesville, Ohio on March 26, 1862. His father was Albertus B. Howard, a native of Frederick, Maryland. He graduated from Barnesville public schools, spent three years at Ohio State University and graduated from Cincinnati Law School. He practiced law at Barnesville, was Solicitor of Barnesville for twelve years, and served two terms on the board of education. Howard was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives from Belmont County for the 72nd and 73rd General Assemblies, (1896 to 1899).
