Jacob Dybwad
Jacob Dybwad (20 July 1823 – 4 September 1899) was a Norwegian bookseller and publisher as well as a pioneer in the publishing trade. Dybwad was one of the founders of the publishing company and bookstore Jacob Dybwad A/S, which was in operation from 1852 until 1987. Background He was born at Vækerø in Aker, Norway. He was the son of Jacob Erasmus Dybwad (1792–1854) and Christiane Lange (1795–1885). His father was an attorney and later a merchant. Jacob Dybwad received his examen artium from Møllers Institute in 1844. To further his education, he traveled to Berlin and later in Leipzig and Paris. Career His older brother, Christopher Andreas Dybwad (1810–1892) had opened a publishing shop in Christiania (now Oslo) which was acquired by Guldberg & Dzwonkowski in 1848. Nordahl Rolfsen
Johan Nordahl Brun Rolfsen (12 June 1848 – 18 January 1928) was a Norwegian writer, educationalist and teacher, journalist, translator and speaker. He is best known for the series of five readers for elementary school, (1892–1895), which became the most widely-used schoolbook in Norway. Family Rolfsen was born in Bergen. His parents were merchant and later bank teller Rasmus Rolfsen and Jannikke Brun. He was great-grandson of poet and bishop of Bjørgvin Johan Nordal Brun, and grandson of shipmaster, shipowner and member of the Norwegian Constitutional Assembly Jens Rolfsen. He married Hedevig Martha Hastrup Birch in 1885. He was the father of painter Alf Rolfsen. Early life Rolfsen finished his education at Bergen Cathedral School in 1866, and continued his studies in Christiania. He worked as a teacher at from 1870 to 1872 and at from 1873 to 1876. Aker, Norway
Aker was a former independent municipality in Akershus, Norway, that constitutes the vast majority of the territory of the modern city of Oslo. The name originally belonged to a farm which was located near the current Old Aker Church. The church in turn became the source of the name of the parish and later municipality as well as Akershus Fortress, the main fief and main county of Akershus which included most of Eastern Norway until 1919, the smaller county of Akershus, and numerous institutions within this area. Aker municipality was in terms of population by far the largest municipality of Akershus county and surrounded the capital city of Christiania (renamed Oslo in 1925) until 1948; Aker was 27 times larger than the capital it surrounded. In the late 19th century Aker ceded some of its territory to Christiania, and in 1948 Aker merged completely with Oslo municipality to create the modern, vastly enlarged Oslo municipality.
