Jacob Candelaria
Jacob Rodney Candelaria (born 1987) is an American politician and attorney who served as a member of the New Mexico Senate for the 26th district from 2013 to 2022. First elected in 2012 as a Democrat, he later left the party in 2021 to become an independent. On December 6, 2021, Candelaria announced that he was changing his party affiliation from "Democrat" to "Decline to State". Candelaria was the first openly gay man elected to the New Mexico Legislature. Early life and career Candelaria was born in Albuquerque, and brought up by his grandmother Elodia Gloria Candelaria. Candelaria attended St. Pius X High School, and went on to earn an A.B. from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University in 2009 after completing a 102-page long senior thesis, titled "Contemporary Venezuelan Oil Policy: An Institutional Analysis", under the supervision of Stanley Katz. Elizabeth T. Stefanics (born November 9, 1950), is an American politician from New Mexico, currently serving in the New Mexico Senate and previously on the Santa Fe County Commission. She was the first openly LGBT member of the New Mexico legislature, serving a single four-year term that began in January 1993. Early life and career Stefanics was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio but moved to New Mexico to teach at the University of New Mexico in 1982. The daughter of an airplane mechanic and a secretary, she earned three college degrees. Redistricting in the United States is the process of drawing electoral district boundaries. For the United States House of Representatives, and state legislatures, redistricting occurs after each decennial census. The U.S. Constitution in Article 1, Section 2, Clause 3 provides for proportional representation in the House of Representatives. The Reapportionment Act of 1929 required that the number of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives be kept at a constant 435, and a 1941 act made the reapportionment among the states by population automatic after every decennial census. New Mexico State Capitol
The New Mexico State Capitol, located in Santa Fe at 490 Old Santa Fe Trail, is the seat of government of the U.S. state of New Mexico. It is the only round state capitol in the United States and is known informally as "the Roundhouse". Design The building was designed to resemble the Zia sun symbol when viewed from above, with four entrance wings that protrude from the main cylindrical volume.
