Jacob Adriaan Nicolaas Patijn
Jacob Adriaan Nicolaas Patijn (9 February 1873 in Rotterdam - 13 July 1961 in The Hague) was an unaffiliated liberal Dutch politician who was Minister of Foreign Affairs from October 1, 1937 until August 12, 1939. Family J.A.N. Patijn was a member of the Patijn family which provided numerous politicians to the Netherlands. He was a son of Jacob Gerard Patijn, lawyer and politician, and Adriana Jacoba Clasina Veeren. In 1903 he married Rudolphine van Doorn (1880-1923) and, after her death at a relatively young age, remarried Elisabeth Wilhelmina Malwina de Brauw (1881-1954). From both marriages no child was born. Career J.A.N. Patijn started his career in diplomacy and then became a civil servant. He was mayor of Leeuwarden from 1 October 1911 to 1918, where he was also deputy judge of the district court from 1912 to 1918. He then became mayor of The Hague from September 1918 until 1930. Biografisch Woordenboek Van Nederland
The ''Biografisch Woordenboek van Nederland'' (BWN) is a Dutch biographical dictionary, in which short biographies of well-known and less well-known but still notable Dutch people are listed. The BWN is the successor to the ''Nieuw Nederlandsch Biografisch Woordenboek'' (NNBW) that was published between 1911 and 1937 in ten parts. This work only included people who died before 1910. In 1971, historian I. Schöffer from Leiden took the initiative for a continuation. The first part of the BWN was published in 1979. The sixth and last part was published in 2009. The biographies in the BWN were written by many different authors. Eelco Nicolaas van Kleffens (17 November 1894 – 17 June 1983) was a Dutch politician and diplomat. Biography Eelco van Kleffens descended from an old Frisian family of public servants. He was the son of Henricus Cato and Jeannette Frésine (Veenhoven) van Kleffens. His younger brother Adrianus van Kleffens would later become a judge at the European Court of Justice. He married Margaret Helen Horstmann on 4 April 1935. After receiving a Doctor of Laws degree from Leiden University, van Kleffens worked in the Secretariat of the League of Nations. He became secretary to the Directorate of Royal Dutch Petroleum Co. in 1920. He was appointed Assistant Director of the Legal Section of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1922 and of the Diplomatic Section in 1927, becoming Director of the latter in 1929. Zeist () is the capital and largest town of the municipality of Zeist. The town is located in the Utrecht province of the Netherlands, east of the city of Utrecht. History The town of "Seist" was first mentioned in a charter in the year 838. The original settlement was located at the present ''Dorpsstraat''. In the late 12th century, a church was built here. Its tower is now a part of the Reformed Church, the remainder of which was built in the 19th century. Until medieval times, a branch of the river Rhine flowed close to the centre of the town. Three mansions were built near the village: the ''Huis te Zeist'', Kersbergen, and Blikkenburg.
