Jaco Londt
Johan Jaco Londt (born 27 November 1984) is a South African politician who has been the Western Cape's Provincial Minister of Social Development and a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since June 2024. Prior to serving in the provincial parliament, he was a Permanent Delegate to the National Council of Provinces between May 2014 and September 2018 and again from May 2019 until May 2024. Between September 2018 and May 2019, he served as a member of the National Assembly. Londt is a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA), of which he serves as the party's provincial chairperson in the Western Cape. He was chairperson of the party's east region in the Western Cape from 2015 to 2020. Early life Londt was born on 27 November 1984 in Oudtshoorn in the former Cape Province. His parents were farmers. 2014 South African General Election
General elections were held in South Africa on 7 May 2014, to elect a new National Assembly and new provincial legislatures in each province. It was the fifth election held in South Africa under conditions of universal adult suffrage since the end of the apartheid era in 1994, and also the first held since the death of Nelson Mandela. It was also the first time that South African expatriates were allowed to vote in a South African national election. The National Assembly election was won by the African National Congress (ANC), but with a reduced majority of 62.1%, down from 65.9% in the 2009 election. The official opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) increased its share of the vote from 16.7% to 22.2%, while the newly formed Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) obtained 6.4% of the vote. 2024 Western Cape Provincial Election
The 2024 Western Cape provincial election was held on 29 May 2024, concurrently with the 2024 South African general election, to elect the 42 members of the List of members of the 7th Western Cape Provincial Parliament, 7th Western Cape Provincial Parliament. Background The previous provincial election was won by the ruling Democratic Alliance (South Africa), Democratic Alliance (DA), but with a reduced majority of 55.45%, down from 59.38% in the 2014 election. The party lost two seats and achieved a majority of 24 seats in the legislature. The Official Opposition African National Congress (ANC) declined from 32.89% to 28.64%, and also lost two seats. Western Cape Provincial Parliament
The Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) is the legislature of the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is located at 7 Wale Street in Cape Town. The Provincial Parliament, along with the other provincial legislatures of South Africa, exists by virtue of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of South Africa and Chapter 3 of the Constitution of the Western Cape. It is unicameral, and consists of 42 members elected by a system of party-list proportional representation. The Western Cape is unique amongst the provinces of South Africa in calling its legislature the "Provincial Parliament" and the members Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs). Anton Wilhelm Bredell (born 26 April 1965) is a South African politician for the Democratic Alliance. He is the current Western Cape Provincial Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning and a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. Biography Anton Bredell studied Marketing and Sales Management after finishing high school. He received the title of Marketing Person of the year in 1996. Political career Bredell became involved in politics in the town of Darling. He served as a municipal councillor prior to his advancement to the post of Deputy Mayor of Darling Transitional Council. Tertuis Alfred Simmers (born 23 March 1983) is a South African politician who has been serving as the Western Cape Provincial Minister of Infrastructure since April 2022.
