Jackson Tan
Jackson Tan (born in 1974) is a Singaporean artist curator, and designer. He is one of the founding partners of contemporary art and designs collective PHUNK, the creative director of the multidisciplinary creative studio BLACK and the creator of Art-Zoo. In 2011, Tan was named one of Time Out’s 50 Movers and Shakers of Singapore’s Art Scene. He was appointed to The Straits Times’ Life Power List in 2015 '. Education Tan graduated in 1994 with a Diploma in Visual Communications (Graphic Design) from LASALLE College of the Arts. In 2015, he earned a Master in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, University of London / LASALLE College of the Arts. PHUNK
PHUNK (previously known as :phunk and Phunk Studio) is a Singapore-based contemporary art and design collective founded by Alvin Tan, Melvin Chee, Jackson Tan, and William Chan in 1994. They have exhibited and collaborated with artists, designers and fashion brands around the world, producing work across a diverse range of mediums. PHUNK was awarded Gold and Silver medals by Promax Asia in six consecutive years between 2001 and 2006. Per Mollerup
Per Mollerup (20 February 1942) is a Danish designer, academic, and author. He is known for his emphasis on simplicity in design and for his wayshowing design at airports in Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm, as well as the Copenhagen Metro. He is currently a Professor of Communication Design at Swinburne University of Technology's School of Design. Mollerup is the author of ''Simplicity: A Matter of Design'' (2015), ''Wayshowing>Wayfinding'' (2013) and ''Wayshowing, A Guide to Environmental Signage'' (2005). He coined the term "wayshowing". Early life and education Mollerup was born in Nakskov, Denmark on 20 February 1942. Promote Mandarin Council
The Promote Mandarin Council is an organisation established in 1979 as part of then- PM Lee Kuan Yew's programme to promote Mandarin as the preferred language amongst Chinese Singaporeans. Background In 1966 the Singapore Government institutionalised a bilingual education policy, under which Singaporean students were required to learn both English and their "designated mother-tongue". For ethnic- Chinese Singaporeans, the designated language was Mandarin, in line with the national language policy pursued in both Nationalist and Communist China. The ''Goh Report'', an evaluation of Singapore's education system by Dr. Goh Keng Swee, claimed that less than 40% of the student population managed to attain the minimum level of competency in two languages. National Design Centre
The National Design Centre of Singapore is located in the arts, cultural, learning and entertainment district of Bras Basah–Bugis. The complex is a focal point for all things design in Singapore and a space where designers and businesses can exhibit their products, exchange ideas, and even work. Singapore Zoo
The Singapore Zoo, formerly known as the Singapore Zoological Gardens or Mandai Zoo, is a zoo located on the margins of Upper Seletar Reservoir within Singapore's heavily forested Central Water Catchment, central catchment area. Opened in 1973, the zoo was built at a cost of $9 million that was granted by the government of Singapore. It is operated by the Mandai Wildlife Group, Mandai Wildlife Reserve, which also manages the neighbouring Night Safari, Singapore, Night Safari, River Wonders, the Jurong Bird Park as well as the forthcoming Rainforest Wild Park. All five parks makes up the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, which consists of more than 15,000 animals from 1,000 species.
