Jackson Barreto
Jackson Barreto de Lima (born May 6, 1944) is a Brazilian lawyer, politician, and member of the PMDB. Barreto has served as the Governor of Sergipe since December 2, 2013, following the death of his predecessor, Governor Marcelo Déda, who died in office. He served as a Sergipe state deputy from 1975 to 1978. Barreto also served as the Mayor of Aracaju, the state's largest city, from 1986 to 1988 and again from 1993 to 1994. Barreto won re-election for a full term as governor in the Sergipe gubernatorial election on October 5, 2014. Governor Barreto received 53.51% of the vote, while his closest opponent, Eduardo Amorim of the PSC, placed second with 41.33% of the vote. Sergipe
Sergipe (), officially State of Sergipe, is a state of Brazil. Located in the Northeast Region along the Atlantic coast of the country, Sergipe is the smallest state in Brazil by geographical area at , larger only than the Federal District. Sergipe borders Bahia to the south and west and Alagoas to the north. Aracaju is the capital and the largest city in the state; the state is divided into 75 municipalities. The state has 1.1% of the Brazilian population and produces only 0.6% of the Brazilian GDP. Geography As with most of the states in northeastern Brazil, inland Sergipe is almost entirely savanna (''caatinga''), and its coastline is characterized by mangroves, swamps and sandy beaches. The Social Christian Party ( pt, Partido Social Cristão, PSC) is a Christian-conservative political party in Brazil. In the 2018 election, the party elected 2 Governors, 1 Senator, 9 Federal Deputies and 30 State Deputies. History The party was founded in 1985, as a Christian democratic party. The party supported Fernando Collor de Mello in the presidential election of 1989, and in 1990, the party won first place in the state election for Alagoas, the home state of then-President Collor. Aracaju
Aracaju () is the capital of the state of Sergipe, Brazil, located in the northeastern part of the country on the coast, about 350 km (217 mi) north of Salvador. According to the 2020 estimate, the city has 664,908 inhabitants, which represents approximately 33% of the state population. Marcelo Déda
Marcelo Déda Chagas (11 March 1960 – 2 December 2013) was a Brazilian politician. He was the mayor of Aracaju from 2000 to 2006, and was elected in 2006 and 2010 as Governor of Sergipe. Déda was born in Simão Dias. His political career had begun during the ''Secondarist Movement'' (Movemento Secundarista). His first contact with the DCE was at the Federal University of Sergipe, during the lifetime of the student leftist political group in the University called "Action". In 1982, in the first election of the Worker's Party ( Partido do Trabalhador), Déda was nominated as a candidate for state representative. He was 22 years old, and he obtained almost 300 votes. In 1985, he was active during the elections for mayor in Aracaju and the present governor candidate. The campaign took off, and Marcelo Déda achieved second place at the ballot box, with approximately 19,000 votes.
