Jackson is a rural town and locality in the Maranoa Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Jackson had a population of 57 people. The town's economy was based on the rail industry. Geography The Warrego Highway runs through from east to west. The Western Railway Line also runs through from east to west, with the town historically served by the now-abandoned Jackson railway station (). History The town is named after John Woodward Wyndham Jackson, who was a sawmiller at Channing (an area now within Jackson South) around 1887 and who later became the police magistrate at Mackay. Jackson Post Office opened by July 1908 (a receiving office had been open from 1887) and closed in 1988. Jackson Provisional School opened on 18 January 1892. Warrego Highway
The Warrego Highway is located in southern Queensland, Australia. It connects coastal centres to the south western areas of the state, and is approximately 715 km in length. It takes its name from the Warrego River, which is the endpoint of the highway. The entire highway is part of the National Highway system linking Darwin and Brisbane: formerly National Highway 54, Queensland began to convert to the alphanumeric system much of Australia had adopted in the early-2000s and this road is now designated as National Highway A2. Route description The highway commences at the end of the M2 Ipswich Motorway, near Ipswich and runs to Helidon Spa, at the foot of the Great Dividing Range. Geography Wallumbilla is situated on the Warrego Highway, five hours by road west from Brisbane, just east of Roma in South West Queensland. Bruce Scott (Australian Politician)
Bruce Craig Scott (born 20 October 1943) is a former Australian politician. He was a member of the National Party and represented the Division of Maranoa in the House of Representatives from 1990 to 2016. He served as Minister for Veterans' Affairs in the Howard Government from 1996 to 2001. Early life Scott was born in Roma, Queensland, and was educated at the Anglican Church Grammar School in Brisbane. Before entering politics, Scott was a wool and grain grower. He served as president of the Queensland Merino Stud Sheep Breeders Association, president of the Maranoa Graziers' Association and president of the Australian Association of Stud Merino Breeders. He was a Nuffield Farming Scholar in 1983.
