Jackie Hunter (entertainer)
Jackie Hunter, born John Hunter (29 September 1903 – 21 November 1951) was a Canadian actor, singer, musician and entertainer known for starring in the 1945 films ''Don Chicago'', as the eponymous hero, and '' Give Me the Stars'' as Lyle Mitchell. In 1943 Hunter appeared in the London West End Lyric Theatre production of the musical revue '' Flying Colours'', co-starring with Binnie Hale and Douglas Byng. Between 1941 and 1948 he was a regular comedian and singer, or compere, on the BBC Home Service, General Forces Programme and the Light Programme, chiefly with Geraldo and his Orchestra and ''Geraldo's Open House''. ''Don Chicago'' is a 1945 British crime comedy film directed by Maclean Rogers and starring Jackie Hunter (actor), Jackie Hunter, Joyce Heron and Claud Allister. It is based on the novel by C. E. Bechhofer Roberts. Plot An aspiring but timid gangster is forced to leave the United States after crossing the wrong people, but upon arriving in Britain he is treated as a dangerous criminal. Hendon
Hendon is an urban area in the Borough of Barnet, North-West London northwest of Charing Cross. Hendon was an ancient manor and parish in the county of Middlesex and a former borough, the Municipal Borough of Hendon; it has been part of Greater London since 1965. Hendon falls almost entirely within the NW4 postcode, while the West Hendon part falls in NW9. Colindale to the north-west was once considered part of Hendon but is today separated by the M1 motorway. The district is most famous for the London Aerodrome which later became the RAF Hendon; from 1972 the site of the RAF station was gradually handed over to the RAF Museum. The railways reached Hendon in 1868 with Hendon station on the Midland Main Line, followed by the London Underground further east under the name Hendon Central in 1923. The Prince Edward Theatre is a West End theatre situated on Old Compton Street, just north of Leicester Square, in the City of Westminster, London. Variety show, also known as variety arts or variety entertainment, is entertainment made up of a variety of acts including musical theatre, musical performances, sketch comedy, magic (illusion), magic, acrobatics, juggling, and ventriloquism. Golders Green Hippodrome
The Golders Green Hippodrome was built in 1913 by Bertie Crewe as a 3,000-seat music hall, to serve North London and the new London Underground Northern line expansion into Golders Green in the London Borough of Barnet, London, England. Taken over by the BBC in the 1960s as a television studio, it has been put to more recent use as a radio studio and multi-purpose concert venue. In 2007, it became an evangelical church building. In 2017 it was acquired by Markaz El Tathgheef El Eslami (Centre for Islamic Enlightening). It was to be converted into an Islamic centre, but residents objected, and Barnet council deferred a decision.
