Arthur M. Jackes (June 26, 1924 – November 10, 2000) was a Canadian high jumper. He competed at the 1948 Summer Olympics and finished sixth. Jackes was a Canadian high jump champion in 1948–1950. He finished tenth in the high jump at the 1950 British Empire Games The 1950 British Empire Games was the fourth staging of what is now called the Commonwealth Games. Betsy Rivers Jackes
Betsy Rivers Jackes (born 1935) is an Australian botanist, researcher, taxonomist and author. Her research interests are the plants in the families Myrsinaceae and Vitaceae. Education Jackes completed her BSc in 1957, followed by her MSc in 1959, at the University of New England (UNE) in Armidale, New South Wales. She won a Fulbright Scholarship to study in the United States and took up a position as a research scholar at the University of Chicago (UC), where she earned her PhD in 1961. Career Jackes initially began work as a tutor in botany at UNE in 1957, before taking on the same role at the University of Queensland (UQ) in 1963. From 1973 through to 2018 she was a lecturer at James Cook University (JCU) in Townsville, Queensland, where she headed the Tropical Plant Sciences Department, and was deputy head of the School of Tropical Biology. Franklin Jackes
Franklin Jackes (3 March 1804 – 16 April 1852) was an early Torontonian politician of the Reform movement. Early life Franklin Jackes was born in London, England, the third child of William Jackes and Catharine Palmer. He had a twin brother who was named Napoleon, but who died in infancy. At the age of eight Franklin Jackes moved with his family to New York City in 1812, however he returned to Europe to serve in the army of the Duke of Wellington as an apprentice baker during the Battle of Waterloo.The Toronto Globe, Saturday 27 November 1920 He then returned to New York City and subsequently moved to Toronto with his family in 1817.
