Jack Tanuan
Edgardo "Jack" Tanuan (July 23, 1965 – April 4, 2002) was a Filipino professional basketball player in the Philippine Basketball Association. College / Amateur career Tanuan played college basketball at Far Eastern University in the UAAP. In the Philippine Amateur Basketball League, Jack saw action for Hope Cigarettes, YCO Shine Masters and MIESCOR. He was part of the Philippine national team that took home the bronze medal during the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul, Korea. Professional career He was drafted first overall by newcomer Purefoods Hotdogs in the 1988 PBA draft. He primarily served as backup to Ramon Fernandez and Jerry Codiñera in his rookie year. Under coach Baby Dalupan, Big Jack was a revelation in the 1990 All-Filipino Conference but still could not find his place with Purefoods, averaging only nine minutes per game. YCO Shine Masters
The YCO Shine Masters were a Philippine Basketball League (then known as the Philippine Amateur Basketball League (PABL) team that played for three conferences through the 1986 and 1987 seasons, winning two PABL titles. The ballclub was owned by the Elizalde Group of Companies, which also owned its predecessor team, the YCO Painters and the original Tanduay franchise in the PBA. The Shine Masters became the first commercial team of Alvin Patrimonio. He appeared in a TV commercial endorsing the YCO Paint Product in 1986. The Shine Masters formed a strong line-up in their three conference appearance. YCO won the 1986 PABL Third Conference Crown, known as Filipino Cup, at the expense of ESQ-Sta.Lucia Realty. The Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA), or Metroball, was a professional basketball league in the Philippines that ran from March 7, 1998, to July 26, 2002. History The MBA played its first game on March 7, 1998, at the Don Narciso Ramos Sports Complex in Lingayen, Pangasinan. Unlike the Philippine Basketball Association, in which teams represent companies, the MBA teams represented a particular city, province or island in the country. The league brought basketball closer to the people, and it raided the PBA for talent. The MBA was widely viewed as broadcast giant ABS-CBN's attempt to undermine the PBA after failing to snatch its broadcast rights in 1998. Metroball allowed foreigners to play for their teams, not requiring Philippine passports of them, nor requiring those foreigners to have Filipino blood. Virgilio "Baby" Adam Dalupan (October 19, 1923 – August 17, 2016) was a Filipino basketball coach and player. Dubbed "The Maestro", Dalupan was best known for his lengthy coaching tenure with the Crispa Redmanizers and garnered a career total of 52 basketball championships. During his 16-year Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) career (1975–1991), Dalupan won 15 PBA championships, the most by any PBA coach until February 26, 2014, when Tim Cone won his 16th PBA championship during the 2013–14 PBA Philippine Cup. Dalupan's record of 15 PBA titles went unmatched for 23 years (1990–2013) until Cone tied Dalupan's record on October 26, 2013, during the 2013 PBA Governors' Cup.
