Jack Speare Park
Jack Speare Park, formerly known as the Indooroopilly Recreation Reserve ('The Rec'), was named for one of the founders of the Taringa Rovers Soccer Football Club (soccer) and Taringa Rovers Cricket Club. The ground is bounded by Fairley Street, Lambert and Carnarvon Roads at Indooroopilly, and features two football fields, junior fields, a turf cricket pitch, dressing rooms and licensed club house. The field was named by former Brisbane Lord Mayor Sallyanne Atkinson in the late 1980s, to honour Mr Speare's contributions to football and the local community. Indooroopilly is a riverside suburb 7km west of the Brisbane CBD, Queensland, Australia. In the , Indooroopilly had a population of 12,242 people. Geography Indooroopilly is bounded to the south and south-east by the median of the Brisbane River. Indooroopilly is connected to Chelmer on the southern bank of the river by four bridges, consisting (from east to west) of a pedestrian/cycling bridge (Jack Pesch Bridge), two rail bridges ( Albert Bridge and Indooroopilly Railway Bridge), and one road bridge (Walter Taylor Bridge, ). Taringa Rovers Soccer Football Club
Taringa Rovers is an Australian soccer club based at Indooroopilly, in the west of Brisbane, Australia. The club was founded in 1949 by Jack Speare and Ernie Dixon. The club started with one junior team, playing out of Moore Park, Indooroopilly and moved to the Indooroopilly Recreation Reserve (now named Jack Speare Park) at Fairley Street Indooroopilly, in 1955. Sallyanne Atkinson AO (born 23 July 1942) was Lord Mayor of Brisbane from 1985 to 1991 in Queensland, Australia. She is the only woman to have held the position.
