Jack Siedle
Ivan Julian "Jack" Siedle (11 January 1903 – 24 August 1982) was a South African cricketer who played in 18 Test cricket, Test matches from 1927–28 to 1935–36. Family background and personal life Born on 11 January 1903 in Berea, Durban, Colony of Natal, Siedle was the youngest son of Otto Siedle, who was born in Woolwich, London of southern German stock and who trained as a watchmaker, subsequently emigrating to Durban where he became prominent in the shipping business and public affairs. Otto Siedle's wife Mary became deputy mayor of Durban. Jack's older brother Karl Siedle played first-class cricket for Natal cricket team, Natal before the First World War, in which he was killed; his sister Perla Siedle Gibson became a well-known singer and a symbol of her country during the Second World War. Berea, Durban
The Berea is a ridge above the city of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on the northern side which overlooks the city centre and the Indian Ocean. Berea is also used as a collective designation for the suburbs in the area. It has been described as the area between the Howard College Campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and the Burman Bush Nature Reserve. Some of the oldest mansions in Durban were built in this once forested area. Today, many of these have been converted into offices or made way for apartment buildings. The Berea was once the most expensive real estate area in the province but is now third to Umhlanga and Durban North. Eric Dalton
Eric Londesbrough Dalton (2 December 1906 – 3 June 1981) was a South African cricketer who played in 15 Test matches from 1929 to 1938–39. He was born and died in Durban, Natal. In a match against Tasmania during the 1931–32 South African tour of Australia, Dalton had his jaw broken by a bouncer from Laurie Nash, who was on a hat-trick at the time. In 1935, Dalton was a member of the South African team that won a Test match in England for the first time. During the match at Lord's, although not especially noted for his bowling, he took the key wickets of Wally Hammond and captain Bob Wyatt in England's first innings to return figures of 2 for 33. In the final Test at The Oval, he scored 117 runs in the first innings, his highest Test score, and 57 not out in the second as the match was drawn, The result gave South Africa their first Test series victory in England. Yorkshire County Cricket Club
Yorkshire County Cricket Club is one of 18 first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Yorkshire. Yorkshire are the most successful team in English cricketing history with 33 County Championship titles, including one shared. Leicestershire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Leicestershire. It has also been representative of the county of Rutland. The club's limited overs team is called the Leicestershire Foxes. Founded in 1879, the club had minor county status until 1894 when it was promoted to first-class status pending its entry into the County Championship in 1895. John Nicolson (South African Cricketer)
John Fairless William Nicolson (born 19 July 1899 – 18 December 1935) was a South African cricketer who played in three Test matches in 1927–28. Nicolson was educated at Oxford University, where he played a lot of club cricket, but made only one first-class cricket appearance, for the university against the West Indies in 1923. But in South Africa, he became a fairly regular player for Natal for five years from 1923 to 1924 as a left-hand opening batsman. His obituary in ''The Times'' stated that he was "skilful and untiring in defence and could hit hard on the leg side". His best season was 1926–27, when he scored the only three centuries of his career. They included an unbeaten 252 against Orange Free State at Bloemfontein in which he shared a first-wicket stand of 424 with Jack Siedle.
