Jack Ryan (outfielder)
John Francis Ryan (May 5, 1905 – September 2, 1967) was a reserve outfielder in Major League Baseball who played briefly for the Boston Red Sox during the season. Listed at , 185 lb., Ryan batted and threw right-handed. He was born in West Mineral, Kansas. Little is known about this LF/ RF who played on a Red Sox uniform with few stars. The team finished last with a 58–96 record and only 394,620 fans came to see them play at Fenway Park that season. An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases. As an outfielder, they normally play behind the six players located in the field. By convention, each of the nine defensive positions in baseball is numbered. A right fielder, abbreviated RF, is the outfielder in baseball or softball who plays defense in right field. Right field is the area of the outfield to the right of a person standing at home plate and facing towards the pitcher's mound.
