Jack Peddie
John Hope Peddie, commonly known as Jack or Jock Peddie, (3 March 1876 – 20 October 1928) was a Scottish footballer who played for various clubs in both England and Scotland, including Newcastle United, Manchester United, Plymouth Argyle and Heart of Midlothian. As a Plymouth player, he is most famous for scoring their first ever goals in the Western and Southern Leagues. Career Born in Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Peddie began his football career with Scottish Junior club Benburb, before moving to Third Lanark in June 1895. Two years later, he moved across the border to England, where he joined Newcastle United, first on trial in January 1897, before signing a professional contract in November 1897. With 17 goals in his first 20 league games, Peddie helped his new club gain promotion to the top flight in his first season in 1898, as well as netting a brace in an impressive 2–1 FA Cup upset of top-flight Preston North End the same season. James McGhee
James McGhee (2 April 1862 in Lugar, Ayrshire – 30 July 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was a Scottish footballer who played for Hibernian and Celtic, and later became a manager with Hibernian's city rivals Heart of Midlothian. Playing career McGhee began his career in his native Ayrshire with Cronberry in 1878 and then Boswell Thistle two years later before moving to Edinburgh side Hibernian in 1883. Hibernian had been founded for the benefit of Edinburgh's immigrant Irish Catholic population but the club quickly became a beacon for the Irish-Catholic minority throughout Scotland. They were able to attract players from Irish communities across the country and with this abundant supply of talent they rapidly became one of the dominant sides in Scotland. William Yates (1883 – after 1914), known as was an English professional footballer who played as an inside forward in the Football League for Manchester United, in the Southern League for Brighton & Hove Albion, Portsmouth and Coventry City, and in the Scottish League for Heart of Midlothian. Life and career Yates was born in Birmingham, where he played local football before joining Aston Villa in 1903. He made one appearance for Villa's first team, and moved on after two years to Brighton & Hove Albion of the Southern League. He missed only one match in the 1905–06 Southern League season, and scored three goals as the team progressed to the second round proper (last 32) of that season's FA Cup, in which they lost to Middlesbrough after two replays.
