''Jack Nicklaus 5'' is a golf video game developed by American studio Eclipse Entertainment and published by Accolade for Windows 95. It is part of a series of golfing games named after golfer Jack Nicklaus. It was released in November 1997, shortly after its predecessor, ''Jack Nicklaus 4'' (1997). ''Jack Nicklaus 5'' received positive reviews for its graphics, sound, and a golf course designer feature, but the game sold poorly. It was followed by '' Jack Nicklaus 6: Golden Bear Challenge'' in 1999. Gameplay ''Jack Nicklaus 5'' has several gameplay modes, including a tournament mode. Accolade (company)
Accolade, Inc. (later Infogrames North America, Inc.) was an American video game developer and publisher based in San Jose, California. The company was founded as Accolade in 1984 by Alan Miller and Bob Whitehead, who had previously co-founded Activision in 1979. The company became known for numerous sports game series, including ''HardBall!, Jack Nicklaus'' and ''Test Drive''. By the early 1990s, Accolade saw critical acclaim for '' Star Control'' (1990), as well as strong sales for ''Bubsy'' (1993). Full-motion video (FMV) is a video game narration technique that relies upon pre-recorded video files (rather than sprites, vectors, or 3D models) to display action in the game. While many games feature FMVs as a way to present information during cutscenes, games that are primarily presented through FMVs are referred to as full-motion video games or interactive movies. The early 1980s saw almost exclusive use of the LaserDisc for FMV games. Many arcade games used the technology but it was ultimately considered to be a fad and fell out of use. In multiplayer video games, matchmaking is the process of connecting players together for online play sessions. Playlists Playlists are automatically managed streams of online play sessions that players can join and leave at will. A set of predefined rules is used to determine the configuration of each session without the need for human input. Games will normally offer a choice of themed playlists (e.g. teams or solo, quirky rulesets, etc.) to suit different tastes or moods. Since playlists are handled by servers controlled by the game's developer, it is possible for them to be changed over time.
