Jack Mortimer
Jack Mortimer (30 October 1912 – 8 February 1973) was an Australian politician. He received a primary education before becoming a farmer in South Australia. He served in the military from 1942 to 1946 and returned as a waterside worker in Port Lincoln where he was a branch secretary of the Waterside Workers' Federation. In 1963, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor member for Grey. He held the seat until his defeat in 1966, after which he became a businessman in Port Lincoln. Mortimer died by drowning at Port Hedland in 1973. The Division of Grey is an Australian electoral division in South Australia. The division was one of the seven established when the former Division of South Australia was redistributed on 2 October 1903 and is named for Sir George Grey, who was Governor of South Australia from 1841 to 1845 (and later Prime Minister of New Zealand). Geography Since 1984, federal electoral division boundaries in Australia have been determined at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by the Australian Electoral Commission. Redistributions occur for the boundaries of divisions in a particular state, and they occur every seven years, or sooner if a state's representation entitlement changes or when divisions of a state are malapportioned. Ceduna, South Australia
Ceduna ( ) is a town in South Australia located on the shores of Murat Bay on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula. It lies west of the junction of the Flinders and Eyre Highways around 786 km northwest of the capital Adelaide. The port town/suburb of Thevenard lies 3 km to the west on Cape Thevenard. It is in the District Council of Ceduna, the federal Division of Grey, and the state electoral district of Flinders. The name Ceduna is a corruption of the local Aboriginal Wirangu word ''Chedoona'' and is said to mean a place to sit down and rest. Karkoo, South Australia
Karkoo is a small rural centre located 20 km to the north of Cummins, South Australia, Cummins in the centre of Eyre Peninsula, South Australia. It is located in an agricultural district where the main economic activities are cereal growing (mainly wheat and barley) and sheep grazing, and most of the district's small population live on surrounding farms. The town of Karkoo itself has only a few residences and facilities, which include a district hall and Country Fire Service brigade. The nearest shops are in the nearby town of Cummins, South Australia, Cummins. Karkoo Primary School opened as the "Hundred of Shannon School" in 1909 and was renamed Karkoo in 1937. Edgar Russell
Edgar Hughes Deg Russell (24 October 1890 – 31 March 1963) was an Australian politician. Russell was born Edgar Hughes Degenhardt, to Carl August Degenhardt and Margaret "Maggie" Degenhardt, née Mackay, at Booleroo Centre. He was educated at public schools at Booleroo Centre and Port Germein. His family subsequently moved to Port Pirie, where his father was a four-time mayor of the City. He was a bank clerk and manager for the National Bank of Australia for twelve years in various towns before becoming a private accountant; he was also a certified local government auditor. He changed his surname to Russell, reportedly under pressure from the bank.
