USS ''Jack Miller'' (DE-410) was a acquired by the U.S. Navy during World War II. The primary purpose of the destroyer escort was to escort and protect ships in convoy, in addition to other tasks as assigned, such as patrol or radar picket. Post-war, she returned home with two battle stars to her credit. The destroyer escort was named in honor of First lieutenant Jack Miller, who was awarded the Navy Cross for his brave actions during the Guadalcanal campaign. The ship was launched on 10 January 1944, by Brown Shipbuilding Co., at their yard in Houston, Texas, sponsored by Mrs. Henry S. Miller, mother of Lt. Miller, and commissioned on 13 April 1944. Namesake Jack Miller was born on 2 April 1920 in Dallas, Texas. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in 1941. Jack Miller (sportscaster)
Jack Miller is a Canadian sportscaster and politician born and raised in Cornwall, Ontario. Miller was hired by CJBQ-AM in Belleville, Ontario as the afternoon drive announcer 1974, working alongside Jack Devine. He took over the sports director position in 1979 and became the play-by-play voice of the Ontario Hockey League's Belleville Bulls in 1981 and has remained in those positions ever since. Miller also hosted the "OHL game of the week" on the Global Television Network until it was sold to CFMT. Miller has also worked for Rogers Sportsnet as a play-by-play announcer for Canadian Hockey League Broadcasts in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Miller was the back up colour commentator and play-by-play voice for the Ottawa Senators radio network during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Jack Richard Miller (June 6, 1916 – August 29, 1994) was an American politician and jurist who served as a Republican United States Senator from Iowa for two terms from 1961 to 1973. He later served as a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Education and career Miller was born in Chicago, Illinois. He first moved to Sioux City, Iowa in 1932 as a teen. He attended The Oratory School in England, then received an Artium Baccalaureus degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 1938 and an Artium Magister degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in 1939. Cecil John Miller (December 28, 1928 – April 8, 1996), usually known as Jack Miller, was an American Presbyterian pastor. He served as pastor of New Life Presbyterian Church in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, and taught practical theology at Westminster Theological Seminary. Early life and education Miller was born on December 28, 1928, in Gold Beach, Oregon. He married Rose Marie Carlsen in 1950, and graduated from San Francisco State College in 1953. In 1966 he received an M.Div. from Westminster Theological Seminary and in 1978 earned his Ph.D. in English literature from the University of the Pacific. Career Starting in 1955, Miller taught at Ripon Christian School for five years in Ripon, California. He was ordained as a minister in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in 1959, and worked as a chaplain for several years in Stockton, California. Jack Miller (born 28 November 1994) is a rugby league footballer who plays as a or for the Keighley Cougars in the RFL League 1. Career Miller played for amateur team, Smallthorne Panthers, before signing an academy contract with the Huddersfield Giants in 2011. In May 2013 he played for the England Academy side in a 52–18 win against the French under-18 team in Bordeaux. Huddersfield Giants Two months previously, Miller signed a two-year contract with Huddersfield and was promoted to the first team. His first team debut was on 7 September 2013 when he started as scrum-half in the final round of Super League XVIII against the Bradford Bulls. Miller and fellow debutant, Jake Connor scored Huddersfield's only points in a 58–6 defeat, Miller converting Connor's try.
