Jack Incoll
John Valentine Incoll (14 February 1879 – 22 May 1961) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the South Melbourne Football Club and Collingwood Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Frank Tychicus Incoll (1840-1905), and his second wife, Margaret Incoll (1840-1929), née Nicholas, John Valentine Incoll was born at Ballarat East, Victoria on 14 February 1879. He married Florence Laura Mills (1881-1939) in 1901. They had two sons, and three daughters one of whom died aged 20 months, as the result of burns she received when her dress caught fire. Football Incoll started his career at South Melbourne but it wasn't until he went to Collingwood in 1902 that he established himself as a VFL footballer. He played in Collingwood's 1902 and 1903 premiership sides and at one stage the club strung together 16 consecutive wins with him in the team. Ballarat East, Victoria
Ballarat East is a suburb of Ballarat in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. From 1857 until 1921 the suburb had its own council (see below). The suburb covers a large area east of the city centre. It is the oldest urban area in Ballarat and was the site of many goldmines, as well as of the Eureka Rebellion. The population of Ballarat East at the was 5,937, making it the 4th most populated suburb in the Ballarat area. The former town retains much of its shambolic character, particularly its winding, unplanned streets, which arose organically among the many gold mines. 1905 VFL Season
The 1905 VFL season was the ninth season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured eight clubs, ran from 6 May until 30 September, and comprised a 17-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Fitzroy Football Club for the fourth time and second time consecutively, after it defeated by 13 points in the 1905 VFL Grand Final. Premiership season In 1905, the VFL competition consisted of eight teams of 18 on-the-field players each, with no "reserves", although any of the 18 players who had left the playing field for any reason could later resume their place on the field at any time during the match. Repatriation General Hospital, Daw Park
The former Repatriation General Hospital, commonly referred to as The Repat or just Repat, was a hospital in Adelaide, South Australia, located in the inner-southern suburb of Daw Park. After complete closure in 2017, and followed by extensive refurbishment, it reopened as the Repat Health Precinct. Daw Park was an original bungalow on the site that became a hospice for many years. Background The Repat was one of a number of Repatriation General Hospitals set up by the Commonwealth Government around the time of World War II to cater for returned serviceman. The various Repats were initially set up as Army hospitals before becoming Repatriation General Hospitals administered by the Repatriation Commission, (now called the Department of Veterans' Affairs). 1911 Adelaide Carnival
The 1911 Adelaide Carnival was the second edition of the Australasian Football Carnival, an Australian rules football interstate competition. It took place from 2 to 12 August at Adelaide Oval. A crowd of 20,000 witnessed South Australia convincingly defeat Victoria in the final to win the championship. Organisation Home state South Australia was joined by teams representing Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and New South Wales. Two teams which had competed in the 1908 Melbourne Carnival – Queensland and New Zealand – did not send teams in 1911. The five teams competed in a single division, each playing the others once. The state with the best record from those games would win the tournament; or, if two teams shared the best record, a final would have been staged. All games were played at Adelaide Oval.
