John Jackson Hunt (November 27, 1922 – May 27, 2020) was an American politician who served as a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives The North Carolina House of Representatives is one of the two houses of the North Carolina General Assembly. Background Hunt was born in Lattimore, North Carolina, he was the fourth and last child of Robert Lee and Alma (née Harrill) Hunt. He graduated from Lattimore High school in 1939. He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1948 and from 1950 to 1952 and was commissioned a major. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University in 1943 and with a degree in dentistry from Emory University in 1948. He was a dentist, a farmer, and a building materials supplier. The North Carolina House of Representatives is one of the two houses of the North Carolina General Assembly. The House is a 120-member body led by a Speaker of the House, who holds powers similar to those of the President pro-tem in the North Carolina Senate. The qualifications to be a member of the House are found in the state Constitution: "Each Representative, at the time of his election, shall be a qualified voter of the State, and shall have resided in the district for which he is chosen for one year immediately preceding his election." Elsewhere, the constitution specifies that qualified voters that are 21 are eligible for candidacy except if otherwise disqualified by the constitution, and that no elected officials may deny the existence of God, although the latter provision is no longer enforced, as it would be illegal to do so. Lattimore is a town in Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 488 at the 2010 census. History A post office called Lattimore has been in operation since 1886.
