Jack Hughes (soccer)
Jack Hughes was an Australian forward during the 1930s. He was a prominent figure in the infamous Metters, side that dominated NSW Football for a whole decade. Club career Hughes started his club career at West Wallsend after progressing throughout West Wallsend’s youth ranks. He stayed at West Wallsend for 4 years before forcing a move to Metters. Over the course of 9 years at Metters, Jack Hughes scored 237 goals in 176 games, teaming up with his brother Ron Hughes. These two were the most feared strikers in NSW Football in the late 30s and early 40s. On the 6 September 1941, Jack and Ron both scored 5 goals as Metters beat Gladesville 12-1 in a NSW State League match. Between them, they scored 597 goals in NSW competitions. Wallsend, New South Wales
Wallsend is a western suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia from Newcastle's central business district. It is part of the City of Newcastle local government area. West Wallsend FC
West Wallsend FC is an association football club based in West Wallsend, New South Wales, Australia. The club is a member of Northern NSW Football in Australia. The club was formed in 1891 by Scottish miners and is the third oldest surviving football club in the Northern Federation, behind Wallsend Red Devils FC (1887) and Adamstown Rosebud FC (1889). History Founded by Scottish miners in 1891 as West Wallsend Athletic FC, they did not compete during the 1895 and 1896 season due to a miners' strike in the district. Alf Quill
Alfred Quill (born 1910, in Sydney) was an Australian soccer player and played for the Australia national team. Often considered one of the best soccer players in New South Wales, he scored 868 goals in all NSW competitions in his 24-year senior career. Early career Alf first showed his signs as a footballer, whilst attending Globe Public School. At the age of 12, Alf represented New South Wales as a schoolboy against Victoria, South Australia and Queensland. George Smith (soccer)
George Smith was an Australian professional soccer player who played as a forward. He captained the Australia national soccer team in 1933. Often considered the best centre-forward in Australian soccer in the 1930s, he had an average of 2.66 goals per game for Australia and has had many goalscoring records throughout his 17-year career. Club career Smith played for a number of clubs in the Sydney and Wollongong areas including Corrimal, where he was the NSW top goalscorer for the 1932 season with 44 goals and St George up to 1936 where he scored 25 goals in 1933 and 51 goals in 1935. Alec Cameron (soccer)
Alec Cameron was an Australian professional soccer player who played as a forward and captained the Australia national soccer team. Club career Cameron had played his entire senior career with Adamstown. He scored 23 goals during the 1930 league season, won the Northern NSW state league and the Double Cup. He scored the first goal in Adamstown's 2–0 win over Cessnock in 1930. He won further Premierships in 1934 and 1935. After Cameron playing with Adamstown for 15 years he joined Weston on a three-year deal on 3 March 1937.
