Jack Green (footballer, Born 1887)
John William Green (28 August 1887 - 6 May 1963) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Geelong and Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Green played two games for Geelong in 1908. After two seasons out of the VFL, Green played a further eight seasons for Collingwood from 1911 to 1918. Green played in four Grand Finals for Collingwood, including the 1917 win against Fitzroy. Green is one of four Jack Green's to have played VFL/AFL football. Birregurra
Birregurra is a town on Gulidjan Country in Victoria, Australia approximately south-west of Melbourne. The town is located within the Colac Otway Shire. At the 2016 census, Birregurra had a population of 828. Birregurra is an Aboriginal word thought to mean ‘kangaroo camp'. In 1839, the Wesleyan missionaries and colonial government established the Buntingdale Mission Station in the area - Victoria's first Aboriginal mission. A Post Office opened in the area on 1 October 1858 and was renamed Mount Gellibrand in 1894, a few days before another office nearby was opened as Birregurra. The railway through the town was opened in 1877, as part of the line to the south west of the state. A branch line to Forrest left the main line here, opened in 1891 and closed in 1957. The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Mulgrave, Victoria, that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was founded in 1902 in the inner-east suburb of Hawthorn, making it the youngest Victorian-based team in the AFL. Jack Green (born 2 August 1947) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Green, who was recruited from Broadford, was the third Jack Green to play for Collingwood. His father played 127 for Collingwood from 1938 to 1949 and his grandfather was a Collingwood premiership player.
