Jack Grant (footballer, Born 1915)
John William Grant (24 September 1915 – 1 December 1983) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Geelong Football Club and Fitzroy Football Club in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). Family He married Dulcie May Ellis (?–1989), in Geelong, on Saturday, 29 April 1939. He died on 1 December 1983, and was buried at Mount Duneed Cemetery, Mount Duneed, Victoria. Stawell Gift He had exceptional pace, winning the 1938 130-yard Stawell Gift in eleven and eleven-sixteenths of a second, off a handicap of 11½ yards. Football Grant usually played on the half forward or half back flank. A member of Geelong's premiership team in 1937, Grant won their Carji Greeves Medal, best and fairest award in 1939. He was their leading goalkicker in 1940, with 47 goals. In 1942 he moved to Fitzroy and spent two seasons with the club, topping their goalkicking in 1942 with 43 goals. Carji Greeves Medal
The Carji Greeves Medal is a name given in recent decades to an Australian rules football award given to the player(s) adjudged best and fairest for the Geelong Football Club for the season. The voting system has changed a number of times. For the 2017 AFL season, the voting panel consisted of the senior coach, director of coaching and the assistant coaches rating each player out of 15 after every game. The combined votes are averaged to give a final score for that game. To ensure players are not disadvantaged by injury, only a player's highest scoring 21 games count. For the 2022 AFL season, after each game, the Senior and assistant coaches reviewed and rated each players performance out of 10. Votes were polled in games where a players performance had been deemed of a high quality by the coaching group, and unlike previous seasons all matches counted towards their final total. The Geelong & District Football League (GDFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball league in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, being the oldest surviving competition in the region. Mount Duneed is a suburb of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. It is divided between the City of Greater Geelong and Surf Coast Shire local government areas. Mount Duneed itself is an extinct volcano and the remains of the crater can be seen in the Mount Duneed Recreation Reserve.
