Jack Foster (athlete)
John Charles Foster (23 May 1932 – 5 June 2004) was a long-distance runner born in Liverpool, England. At first a cyclist, who didn't start running until he was 32, he represented New Zealand in the men's marathon at two Summer Olympics at Munich, West Germany (1972) and Montreal, Canada (1976). He made the team for the 1975 International Cross Country Championships, where his country took the title. A resident of Rotorua, he won the silver medal in the marathon at the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch with a master's world record time of 2:11:18.6 at the age of 41. Two years earlier, he had set a world record for 20 miles at 1:39:14. Foster is featured in the New Zealand short film "On the Run" about Arthur Lydiard influenced athletes. Jack Foster (footballer, Born 1877)
John Samuel Foster (19 November 1877 – 5 February 1946) was an English footballer who played as a forward for various clubs in the 1900s. After retiring as a player, he became a manager. Playing career Foster was born in Rawmarsh, West Riding of Yorkshire, but started his professional career as an inside-forward at Blackpool of the Football League Second Division, where, during the 1901–02 season, he scored six goals from 28 league appearances. He then dropped down to the Midland League where he spent several seasons back in Yorkshire with Rotherham Town before moving to Southern League Watford in 1906. At Watford, he developed a reputation as a "dashing leader of attacking football". He returned to the Football League when he joined Sunderland of the First Division in December 1907 for a fee of £800. Jack Foster (1906–1978) was a prominent 20th-century journalist in the Rocky Mountain region. His career as a journalist spanned 43 years with Scripps-Howard newspapers in Cleveland, New York City, and Denver. He was the editor of the ''Rocky Mountain News''. Early life and education He was born in 1906 in St. Joseph, Missouri. His father, John W. Foster (died 1944), was a career-long journalist and editor for the Scripps-Howard newspapers.
