Jack English (footballer, Born 1886)
John Cogal English (13 December 1886 – 21 January 1953) was an English footballer and manager who played for Hebburn Argyle, Preston, Watford and Sheffield United. He played as a left-back and was judged to be the finest in the League in 1915. Club career Born in Hebburn, County Durham, English started playing with Hebburn Argyle. He then went on to play for Preston and Watford, before being sold to Sheffield United for a fee of £500 in April 1913. He was a member of the Blades team who won the FA Cup final in 1915. He left the Blades after refusing to re-sign following World War I and joined Darlington in 1919 as player-manager, retiring from playing in 1921 but remaining as manager for a further seven years. He went on to manage Nelson, before moving to Northampton Town, resigning from that post in March 1935. Jack English (photographer)
Jack English (born 13 June 1948) is a photographer, known for his work in the film and music industry. Early life English is the first of two sons born in Leicester, to businessman Jack English and Dutch mother Jansje Schoen. He attended Ashby Grammar School. Friends of English at the time include Leicester natives fashion photographer David Parkinson and musician Ric Grech (Family and Blind Faith) both of whom died young. English's younger brother William attended the London Film School in 1972, encouraging Jack to move to London where he worked at the International Telephone Exchange on Carter Lane. In the autumn of 1978, Jack was involved in setting up a PX clothes shop in Covent Garden with Roger Burton. He and Burton then left to form Contemporary Wardrobe, leading to a commission to supply the costumes for the film ''Quadrophenia'' and independent styling work for MPL (Paul McCartney), Italian Vogue and Boulevard. Jack English Hightower
Jack English Hightower (September 6, 1926 – August 3, 2013) was a former Democratic U.S. representative from Texas's 13th congressional district. Early life Born in Memphis, the seat of Hall County in West Texas, Hightower was a United States Navy sailor for two years during World War II. His parents were Walter Thomas Hightower, a greenhouse proprietor, and Floy Edna (English) Hightower, a homemaker. Education and law career In 1949, Hightower received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. In 1951, he procured an LL.B. from Baylor Law School. Years later in 1992, he obtained an LL.M. from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was admitted to the Texas bar in 1951 and immediately became district attorney of the 46th Texas Judicial District, based in Vernon, the seat of Wilbarger County.
