Abel Joseph "Jack" Diamond, (November 8, 1932–October 30, 2022) was a South Africa-born Canadian architect. Diamond arrived in Canada in 1964 for the University of Toronto. In 1974, he established his architectural practice, A.J. Diamond Architects. This practice evolved into Diamond Schmitt Architects. Personal life and education Jack Diamond was born on November 8, 1932, in Piet Retief, South Africa, and he belongs to a Jewish family. Diamond's great-grandfather was a rabbi in London, England. In 1917, Diamond's grandfather died in a pogrom in Lithuania. Diamond's father, Jacob Diamond, migrated to South Africa before the Second World War. Jack Diamond, (April 9, 1909 – March 25, 2001) was a Canadian businessman and philanthropist. Born in Lubience in Galicia, Diamond immigrated to Vancouver in 1927. He bought a butcher shop and later created British Columbia's largest meat packing firm, Pacific Meats. In 1963, Diamond sold Pacific Meats and formed West Coast Reduction, a tallow and feed company. He was Chancellor of Simon Fraser University from 1975 until 1978. In 1979, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada. He was promoted to Officer in 1980 and promoted to Companion in 2000. Jack "Legs" Diamond (possibly born John Thomas Diamond, though disputed; July 10, 1897 – December 18, 1931), also known as Gentleman Jack, was an Irish American gangster in Philadelphia and New York City during the Prohibition era. A bootlegger and close associate of gambler Arnold Rothstein, Diamond survived a number of attempts on his life between 1916 and 1931, causing him to be known as the " clay pigeon of the underworld". In 1930, Diamond's nemesis Dutch Schultz remarked to his own gang, "Ain't there nobody that can shoot this guy so he don't bounce back?" Jack Diamond (Manchester, 12 August 1941 – 12 May 2016) was a British comedian, known for his work in clubs and theatres in northwest England. He was described as a "Blackpool favourite" by ''The Stage'' magazine and "a very funny man" by Bernard Manning. Early life Jack was born in Manchester on 12 August 1941. John Diamond, Baron Diamond, PC (30 April 1907 – 3 April 2004) was a British Labour Party politician. Diamond was educated at Leeds Grammar School and became an accountant. He was elected Member of Parliament in 1945 for the Blackley division of Manchester, but lost it in 1951. In 1946 and 1947, he was parliamentary private secretary to the Ministry of Works. He returned to the House of Commons in a 1957 by-election for Gloucester, caused by the death of its Labour MP, Moss Turner-Samuels. He served as Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 1964, a cabinet position from 1968, and Privy Councillor from 1965. He represented Gloucester until his surprise defeat in 1970 by the Conservative candidate, Sally Oppenheim-Barnes.
