Jack Devey
John Henry George Devey (26 December 1866 – 11 October 1940) was an English football player and a first-class cricketer. He is considered one of Aston Villa's greatest captains. Football career Devey was born in Birmingham and signed for Aston Villa in March 1891; A skilful inside right/centre-forward and an England international with two caps, he was exceptionally clever with head and feet in front of goal and a prolific goalscorer. He was Villa's top goal scorer in 6 of his 12 seasons with the club. For eight years, Devey captained Aston Villa during which time they won the League championship five times between 1894 and 1900 and the FA Cup twice. Including the famous 'Double' in the 1896–97 season. Newtown, also referred to as Aston New Town, is an inner city area of Birmingham, England, just to the north of the city centre. Warwickshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Warwickshire. George Brown (footballer, Born 1903)
George Brown (22 June 1903 – 10 June 1948) was an English professional footballer and football manager, who played most of his career with Huddersfield Town. Playing career A centre-forward, he was the highest ever goal-scorer for Huddersfield Town with 159 goals; 142 in the League in 213 appearances and 17 from 16 outings in the FA Cup. Signed straight from his pit team at Mickley in May 1921, he was eventually sold to Aston Villa in August 1929 for £5,000. For Villa he scored a total of 89 goals in 126 games. During his career he scored 273 goals in 440 games, between 1921 and 1938, after which he retired to run a pub. He gained 9 full England caps and represented the Football League once. Jimmy Gibson (footballer, Born 1901)
James Davidson Gibson (12 June 1901 – 1 January 1978) was a Scottish footballer who played for Kirkintilloch Rob Roy, Ashfield, Partick Thistle and Aston Villa. His career spanned 19 years, from 1917 to 1936. Career Gibson played right-half and was regarded as one of the best players in that position at that time. He played almost 200 games for Partick before a transfer to Aston Villa for a then-record fee of £7,500. He made 227 appearances for Aston Villa, during which time they were runners-up in the Football League twice ( 1930–31 and 1932–33) but were relegated in his final season with the club, 1935–36. Arthur Dorrell
Arthur Reginald Dorrell (30 March 1896 – 13 September 1942) was an English international footballer who played on the left-wing. He was the son of former Villa player William Dorrell. He played for Aston Villa between 1919 and 1931, scoring 65 goals in 390 appearances and winning four England caps. He played in both the 1920 and 1924 FA Cup finals, the first of which Villa won. Richard York
Richard Ernest York (25 April 1899 – 9 December 1969), also known as Dicky York, which is often also spelled as Dickie York, was an English footballer, who in addition to a long club career with Aston Villa in the Football League appeared twice for the England national team. A winger, he spent 16 years at Villa from 1915 to 1931, and was on the losing team in the 1924 FA Cup Final. He later had brief spells with Port Vale and Brierley Hill Alliance. Club career York started his career with Handsworth Royal, Birchfield Rangers and the Royal Air Force, and also guested for Chelsea and Boscombe Town during World War I. Billy Walker (footballer, Born 1897)
William Henry Walker (29 October 1897 – 28 November 1964) was a prominent English footballer of the 1920s and 1930s. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest footballers to ever play for Aston Villa and England. As a manager he won the FA Cup with each of Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest, some 24 years apart, a record which stands to this day.
