Jack Chojnacki
Jack Chojnacki (born c. 1941) served as the co-president of Those Characters from Cleveland Inc., a division of U.S. greeting card company American Greetings (AGC), in the 1980s. He assisted in the creation of several AGC franchises, including Strawberry Shortcake and the Care Bears. Career A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Chojnacki graduated from the city's Marquette University High School in 1958. During the 1970s, he was among the staff of American Greetings, a card company based in Cleveland, Ohio; he licensed the Holly Hobbie character early in his tenure there. Later that decade, he set up the company's licensing branch Those Characters from Cleveland with another AGC employee, Tim Wilson (the creator of the comic strip ''Ziggy''). He attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, graduating in 1955. He was a Cooper Union art instructor from 1961 to 1962. Wilson's career began in 1950, doing advertisement layouts for Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Uniontown Newspapers, Inc. Capital Cities/ABC Inc. was an American media company. It was founded in 1985 when Capital Cities Communications purchased the much larger American Broadcasting Company. It eventually proposed a merger of equals with The Walt Disney Company and re-branded itself as Disney–ABC Television Group (now Walt Disney Television) in 1996. Popples
Popples is a toy and television franchise created by Those Characters From Cleveland (TCFC), a subsidiary of American Greetings. Popples resemble brightly colored marsupial teddy bears with long tails ending in a pom-pom. Each Popple character transforms to resemble a brightly colored ball. In 2018, Popples was sold to Hasbro. History Susan Trentel, who worked for TCFC and had created the first prototypes on Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bears, was the plush toy designer who invented the method for transforming the Popple. Supposedly, the idea came from rolling up socks. Trentel worked with art director Thomas Schneider on the creation of the first prototypes (Patent #4614505). Madballs
''Madballs'' is a series of toy foam balls originally created by AmToy, a subsidiary company of American Greetings (Now Cloudco Entertainment) in the mid-1980s, later being revived by Art Asylum (2007–2008) and Just Play, Inc. (2017–2019). The balls incorporated gross-out humor and each was given a character synopsis and an odd name. The toyline expanded into a franchise with comic books, direct-to-video cartoons, and a video game for the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64. The ''Boca Raton News'', owned by the South Florida Media Company, was the local community newspaper of Boca Raton, Florida.
