Jack Charles Hillman
John Charles Hillman (October 6, 1893 – December 13, 1977) was a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1952 to 1971 sitting with the Social Credit caucus in government. Political career Hillman ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature in the 1952 Alberta general election. He stood as the Social Credit candidate in the electoral district of Sedgewick. Hillman won the district with a landslide majority to hold the seat for his party. Hillman ran for a second term in the 1955 Alberta general election. He held his vote share from the last election and took the district easily, defeating two other candidates. The 1959 Alberta general election, 1959 general election would see Hillman be returned to office with his largest majority to date. He easily defeated three other candidates. Galahad is a hamlet in east-central Alberta, Canada within Flagstaff County. It is located just a few miles north of the Battle River valley on a former Canadian National rail line. The hamlet was originally incorporated as a village on May 5, 1918. It dissolved to become a hamlet under the jurisdiction of Flagstaff County on January 1, 2016. The 1952 Alberta general election was held on August 5, 1952, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Ernest C. Manning in his third election as leader of the Social Credit Party, and its first election since the Social Credit Party paid off Alberta's first debt in 1949, led it to its fifth consecutive election victory, increasing its share of the popular vote, and winning fifty two of the sixty one seats in the legislature. The Liberal Party formed the official opposition with only four seats. 1967 Alberta General Election
The 1967 Alberta general election was held on May 23, 1967, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta to the 16th Alberta Legislature. The election was called after the 15th Alberta Legislature was prorogued on April 11, 1967, and dissolved on April 14, 1967. Ernest C. Manning led the Social Credit Party to its ninth consecutive majority government, winning 55 of the 65 seats in the legislature, despite getting less than 45 per cent of the popular vote. Although it was not apparent at the time, this proved to be an ominous sign for the party. The 1967 election was the first time the Social Credit government had won less than half the popular vote since 1955. James Leland Sims
James Leland Sims (1905-1977) was a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1955 to 1959 sitting with the Liberal caucus in opposition. Political career Sims ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature in the 1955 Alberta general election as a Liberal party candidate in the electoral district of Acadia-Coronation. The race was hotly contested with Sims defeating Social Credit incumbent Clarence Gerhart on the second ballot. Sims finished a close second on the first count but was able to surpass Gerhart on second choice votes from Cooperative Commonwealth candidate L.E. Reiman. The 1963 Alberta general election was held on June 17, 1963, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The Social Credit Party, led by Ernest C. Manning, won its eighth consecutive term in government, winning roughly the same number of seats in the legislature and share of popular vote that it had in the 1959 election. Some Social Credit supporters were so confident of their party's chances that they talked of winning "63 in '63", i.e., all 63 seats in the legislature in the 1963 election. They fell short of this goal, but still had an overwhelming majority, reducing the opposition to only three MLAs in total. The 1955 Alberta general election was held on June 29, 1955, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Despite losing almost 10% of the popular vote (compared to its 1952 proportion of the vote) and 30% of its seats in the legislature, the Social Credit Party, led by Ernest C. Manning, received a slightly higher number of votes than in 1952 and won a comfortable majority for its sixth term in government. Social Credit Party Of Alberta
Alberta Social Credit was a provincial political party in Alberta, Canada, that was founded on social credit monetary policy put forward by Clifford Hugh Douglas and on conservative Christian social values. The Canadian social credit movement was largely an out-growth of Alberta Social Credit. The Social Credit Party of Canada was strongest in Alberta, before developing a base in Quebec when Réal Caouette agreed to merge his Ralliement créditiste movement into the federal party.
