John Carney (Delaware Politician)
John Charles Carney Jr. (born May 20, 1956) is an American politician serving as the 74th governor of Delaware since 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, Carney served as the U.S. representative for from 2011 to 2017 and as the 24th lieutenant governor of Delaware from 2001 to 2009. He also served as Delaware's secretary of finance from 1996 to 2000. He first unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for governor in 2008, losing to Jack Markell. He ran for governor again in 2016 and won, succeeding Markell, who was term-limited. He was reelected in 2020, defeating Republican Julianne Murray with 59.5% of the vote. John Patrick Carney (born March 28, 1976) is an American attorney and former Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 22nd District from 2009 to 2014. In September 2013, Carney announced his intention to run for Auditor of the State of Ohio in the 2014 election, he lost the general election on November 4 to incumbent Dave Yost. Life and career Carney is the eleventh of twelve children and has lived his entire life in Ohio. John Michael Carney (born April 20, 1964) is an American former professional football player who was a placekicker in the National Football League (NFL). He was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 1987. He played college football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Carney was also a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Diego Chargers, New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, and New York Giants. He was born in Salem, Massachusetts, United States in 1866, and made his debut with the Washington Nationals on April 24, 1889. His last game, with the Milwaukee Brewers, was on October 4, 1891, and he died in 1925 in Litchfield, New Hampshire.
