Jack Brereton
Jack Edgar Brereton (born 13 May 1991) is a British Conservative Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Stoke-on-Trent South constituency since the 2017 general election and a former councillor of Stoke-on-Trent City Council. Early life and education Brereton was born in Stoke-on-Trent on 13 May 1991 and grew up in the area. He attended Keele University, graduating with a degree in Politics and International Relations in 2012, and further studied at University College London. Career Brereton first stood for a seat at the age of 18 in the 2010 Stoke-on-Trent City Council election on 6 May 2010, where he was defeated in the East Valley ward by the Labour Party candidate Matt Wilcox. In early July 2022, 62 of the United Kingdom's 179 government ministers, parliamentary private secretaries, trade envoys, and party vice-chairmen resigned from their positions in the second administration formed by Boris Johnson as Prime Minister, culminating in Conservative Party leader and Prime Minister Boris Johnson's resignation on 7 July. Johnson's premiership had been considered in danger for months after several scandals, but it was the Chris Pincher scandal that was identified to have spurred on the resignations. The Brexit withdrawal agreement, officially titled Agreement on the withdrawal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community, is a treaty between the European Union (EU), Euratom, and the United Kingdom (UK), signed on 24 January 2020, setting the terms of the withdrawal of the UK from the EU and Euratom.
