Jack Ball (footballer, Born 1907)
John Thomas Ball (13 September 1907 – 1976) was an English footballer, who played as a forward. Born in Banks, Lancashire, he played for clubs including Southport, Manchester United, Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield Town and Luton Town. He joined Mossley from Newtown United in 1925, scoring 10 goals in 18 appearances, including a debut hat-trick in a 5–1 win over Macclesfield on 31 October 1925, before moving to Southport for the 1926–27 season. He then moved to Chorley before in 1929 moving to Manchester United. He moved from Manchester United to Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 1930, and made his Wednesday debut on 8 September. He played in Sheffield Wednesday's 2–1 defeat by Arsenal in the Charity Shield at Stamford Bridge in October 1930. Ball scored 94 goals in just 135 matches with the Sheffield club, before returning to Manchester United in December 1933. Banks, Lancashire
Banks is a large coastal village in Lancashire, England, south of the Ribble estuary four miles (6 km) north-east of Southport. The village is administered by West Lancashire Borough and North Meols Parish Council. It is in the South Ribble parliamentary constituency. At the 2001 census the population of the North Meols civil parish was 3,792, rising to 4,146 by the 2011 census. Banks is the largest village in the parish of North Meols on the West Lancashire coastal plain. It was primarily an agricultural community due to the excellent soil, although there was fishing activity for many years. Production of flowers and vegetables is common on the farms surrounding the village. The proximity of Southport and Preston have led to its expansion as a dormitory for commuters. Biggleswade ( ) is a market town and civil parish in Central Bedfordshire in Bedfordshire, England. It lies on the River Ivel, 11 miles (18 km) south-east of Bedford. Its population was 16,551 in the 2011 United Kingdom census, and its estimated population in mid-2019 had increased to 21,700, its growth encouraged by good road and rail links to London. The King's Reach development, begun in 2010, will provide 2,000 new homes to the east of the town. Excelsior Roubaix
Excelsior Athlétic Club was a French association football team playing in the city of Roubaix, Nord. History The team was founded in 1928 in a merger between Football Club de Roubaix and Excelsior Club de Tourcoing. In 1932, the team turned professional and played the first professional football season in 1932/1933 and won the same year its first major trophy, the Coupe de France. Till the World War II, the team managed to stay in Division 1. After the war, the club merged with RC Roubaix and US Tourcoing in CO Roubaix-Tourcoing (1945–1970). After 1970, the team struggled at an amateur level till its demise in 1995. In 1977, the team merged with Sporting Club de Roubaix to create Roubaix Football, which also merged in 1990 with Stade Roubaix (i.e. former RC Roubaix) but never managed to come back to Division 1, only playing the 1983/84 season in Division 2. Lancashire ( , ; abbreviated Lancs) is the name of a historic county, ceremonial county, and non-metropolitan county in North West England. The boundaries of these three areas differ significantly.
