Jacarepaguá Airport
Jacarepaguá–Roberto Marinho Airport is an airport in the neighborhood of Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil dedicated to general aviation. Following extensive renovation in 2008 the airport was renamed after Roberto Pisani Marinho (1904–2003), a journalist and former president of Globo Network. It is a major helibase for offshore support. During a transitional period, the airport is jointly operated by Infraero and XP Inc. Henri Guillaumet (29 May 1902 – 27 November 1940) was a French aviator. Guillaumet was born in Bouy, Marne. He was a pioneer of French aviation in the Andes, the South Atlantic and the North Atlantic. It is named after Rolim Adolfo Amaro (1942–2001), founder and former president of LATAM Brasil formerly known as TAM Airlines. It is operated by Rede Voa. History The airport was commissioned in 1942 and it is dedicated to general aviation. In 2009 the airport was ranked 10th in terms of aircraft operations in Brazil, and in 2010 it remained amongst the busiest airports in the country due to its general aviation traffic, including executive aviation and aircraft maintenance facilities. São Paulo/Congonhas–Deputado Freitas Nobre Airport is one of the four commercial airports serving São Paulo, Brazil. The airport is named after the neighborhood where it is located, called Vila Congonhas, property of the descendants of Lucas Antônio Monteiro de Barros (1767–1851), Viscount of Congonhas do Campo, first president of the Province of São Paulo after the independence of Brazil in 1822, during the Empire. In turn, the Viscount's domain was named after the plural of a shrub known in Brazil as ''congonha-do-campo'' (''Luxemburgia polyandra'', of the Ochnaceae family). Since June 19, 2017, it is officially named after Deputy Freitas Nobre. The name Congonhas, however, remains mostly used. It is owned by the City of São Paulo. The 2007 Pan American Games, officially known as the XV Pan American Games, were a major continental multi-sport event that took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from July 13 to 29, 2007. A total of 5,633 athletes from 42 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competed in 332 events in 34 sports and in 47 disciplines. Manguinhos Airport
Manguinhos Airport was an airport that existed in the neighborhood of Manguinhos, near Oswaldo Cruz Foundation in Rio de Janeiro from 1936 to 1972. History The origin of Manguinhos Airport is related to Aeroclube do Brasil ( en, Brazil Flying club), a school of aviation founded in 1911 at Campo dos Afonsos Airport. In 1919 the Brazilian Army decided to locate at this facility the School of Military Aviation and forced the Flying Club to move elsewhere. The board of directors decided to re-locate its facilities near Oswaldo Cruz Foundation and for that land was flattened and a swamp drained. An official property land-title was however never given to the Flying Club; it just occupied the site with the acknowledgement of authorities. Manguinhos was officially opened in 1936 although it had been in use before this year.
