Jabulile Mkhwanazi
Jabulile Cynthia Nightingale Mkhwanazi (born 27 February 1975) is a South African African National Congress politician serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from KwaZulu-Natal since 2019. Political career Mkhwanazi served as an African National Congress proportional representation councillor (PR) in the Newcastle Local Municipality. Politics For the general election on May 8, 2019, Mkhwanazi was the twelfth candidate on the ANC's list of National Assembly candidates from KwaZulu-Natal. The ANC won 24 regional seats in KwaZulu-Natal and Mkhwanazi was elected to the National Assembly. She was sworn into office on May 22, during the first sitting of the National Assembly following the election. Mkhwanazi became a member of the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises on 27 June 2019. Zulu people (; zu, amaZulu) are a Nguni ethnic group native to Southern Africa. The Zulu people are the largest ethnic group and nation in South Africa, with an estimated 10–12 million people, living mainly in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The National Assembly is the directly elected house of the Parliament of South Africa, located in Cape Town, Western Cape. It consists of four hundred members who are elected every five years using a party-list proportional representation system where half of the members are elected proportionally from nine provincial lists and the remaining half from national lists so as to restore proportionality. The National Assembly is presided over by a Speaker, assisted by a Deputy Speaker. The current Speaker is Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula who previously served as the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans. She was elected on 19 August 2021. 2019 South African General Election
General elections were held in South Africa on 8 May 2019 to elect a new President, National Assembly and provincial legislatures in each province. These were the sixth elections held since the end of apartheid in 1994 and determined who would become the next President of South Africa. Incumbent President Cyril Ramaphosa led the ruling African National Congress, with the party attempting to retain its majority status and secure Ramaphosa a full term in office as president; his predecessor, Jacob Zuma, resigned from office on 14 February 2018.
