Jaakko Paavolainen
Jaakko Paavolainen (23 July 1926, Pobeda, Leningrad Oblast, Kanneljärvi – 30 October 2007, Helsinki), was a Finland, Finnish historian, PhD 1966. He became professor in history at the University of Turku 1986–1989. Jaakko Paavolainen published his much noticed results about the red terror and Finnish Civil War, white terror during the Finnish civil war in three volumes and has also published a biography of Väinö Tanner (4 parts, 1977–89). His boyhood memories från Karelia, Carelia he pictures in ''Lapsuus Kanneljärvellä'' (1982) and the life of his cousin Olavi Paavolainen in a 1992 published volume. Jaakko Paavolainen is the son of Erkki Paavolainen and the father of Pentti Paavolainen (b. 1953), professor in arts research at Helsinki Theatre Academy. Karelia
Karelia ( Karelian and fi, Karjala, ; rus, Каре́лия, links=y, r=Karélija, p=kɐˈrʲelʲɪjə, historically ''Korjela''; sv, Karelen), the land of the Karelian people, is an area in Northern Europe of historical significance for Russia (including the Soviet era), Finland, and Sweden. Helsinki Theatre Academy
The Theatre Academy ( fi, Teatterikorkeakoulu, sv, Teaterhögskolan) is one of the three academies of the University of the Arts Helsinki and offers education in theatre and dance. It is Finland's largest education provider in its field and, with the exception of acting, the only one in the country. In September 2014, there were 349 students at TeaK: 315 in the bachelor and master programmes, and the remaining 34 were studying for a licentiate or doctoral degree. The current dean of the Theatre Academy is Maarit Ruikka, and the vice-deans are Leena Rouhiainen and Ari Tenhula. Erkki Paavolainen
Erkki Paavolainen (17 May 1890, Kivennapa – 18 March 1960, Helsinki) was a Finnish journalist, educationist and politician. He was Minister of Social Affairs from 3 March to 20 October 1932. Paavolainen served as a Member of the Parliament of Finland from 1924 to 1927, from 1929 to 1933, from 1936 to 1947 and again from 1948 to 1951, representing the National Coalition Party. Olavi Paavolainen
Olavi Paavolainen (17 September 1903 – 19 July 1964) was a Finnish writer, essayist and poet. He was one of the prominent figures of the literary group Tulenkantajat (″The Flame Bearers″), and one of the most influential Finnish writers of the inter-war period. Paavolainen started his poetry career in the literary magazine '' Nuori Voima''. Paavolainen was interested in Fascism and National Socialism, but after the World War II he turned to the political left. Paavolainen's notable works include the 1936 travel report '' Kolmannen valtakunnan vieraana'' (″A Guest of the Third Reich″) and the 1946 ''Synkkä yksinpuhelu'' (″A Gloomy Soliloquy″), based on his war diaries. On the basis of the latter book, an adaptation of the ''Sign of the Beast'' was made in 1981, directed by Jaakko Pakkasvirta. Paavolainen was bisexual. Väinö Tanner
Väinö Alfred Tanner (; 12 March 1881 – 19 April 1966; surname until 1895 ''Thomasson'') was a leading figure in the Social Democratic Party of Finland, and a pioneer and leader of the cooperative movement in Finland. He was Prime Minister of Finland in 1926–1927. Tanner was born in Helsinki as the son of a railway brakesman of modest means. After matriculating in 1900, he studied at the business college ''Suomen Liikemiesten Kauppaopisto'' (one of two predecessors of the present-day Business College Helsinki). He also studied law, graduating as a jurist in 1911. Tanner started work as a trainee at the ''Großeinkaufs-Gesellschaft Deutscher Consumvereine (GEG)'' in Hamburg, Germany, while still a student, and in 1903, after returning to Finland, became manager of ''Turun Vähäväkisten Osuusliike'', then the largest cooperative retail society in Finland.
