JP Hornick
JP Hornick is a Canadian labour leader and the current President of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU). Hornick was elected to the role April 2022 succeeding Warren (Smokey) Thomas. Hornick is also the current Coordinator of the School of Labour at George Brown College. Community Hornick serves as a board member of Red Dress Productions, a community arts organization, which investigates the relationship between community narratives and urban public space. Activism In September 2000, Hornick was arrested on a liquor license violation following a Toronto Police raid on a women's bathhouse organized by the Toronto Women's Bathhouse Committee, a project of the AIDS Committee of Toronto. Charges were dismissed by a judge in 2002, citing a violation of constitutional rights during the raid. Ontario Public Service Employees Union
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU; french: Syndicat des employés de la fonction publique de l'Ontario EFPOlink=no) is a trade union representing public sector employees in the province of Ontario, Canada. It claims a membership of approximately 180,000 members. OPSEU was established in 1975 as the successor union to the former Civil Service Association of Ontario, which was founded in 1911. In 1979, OPSEU affiliated with the Canadian Labour Congress, the National Union of Public and General Employees, and the Ontario Federation of Labour. OPSEU is affiliated to several labour councils across Ontario. The current President is JP Hornick, who was elected to the position in April 2022. A union organizer (or union organiser in Commonwealth spelling) is a specific type of trade union member (often elected) or an appointed union official. A majority of unions appoint rather than elect their organizers. In some unions, the organizer's role is to recruit groups of workers under the organizing model.
