J. Xaverre
Founded in 2000, J Xaverre are an English folktronica band from Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England. Largely a solo creation by Pete Gofton, he has occasionally been joined by Lea Doherty (vocals) and the King of Woolworths member Jon Brooks (keyboards and production). History Founded in 2000, J Xaveere is one of many aliases for the Sunderland-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Pete Gofton. After his previous band Kenickie split in 1998, he got a solo publishing deal with Universal Records. He purchased some recording equipment, and began the first incarnation of his studio, Wang Computers. He produced bands such as Spraydog and Woodchuck, and the recordings of his ex- Kenickie bandmate (and sibling) Lauren Laverne. He released his first single, a vinyl only seven inch, "Wild Weekend" / "Nilsong", in 2000, on Odeam, his flatmate's label. Sunderland
Sunderland () is a port city in Tyne and Wear, England. It is the City of Sunderland's administrative centre and in the Historic counties of England, historic county of County of Durham, Durham. The city is from Newcastle-upon-Tyne and is on the River Wear's mouth to the North Sea. The river also flows through Durham, England, Durham roughly south-west of Sunderland City Centre. Kenickie
Kenickie were an English four-piece pop punk band from Sunderland. The band was formed in 1994 and consisted of lead vocalist, guitarist and lyricist Lauren Laverne (b. Lauren Gofton), drummer Johnny X (real name Pete Gofton, Lauren's brother), lead guitarist and occasional lead vocalist Marie du Santiago (b. Anne Marie Nixon) and bass guitarist Emmy-Kate Montrose (b. Emma Jackson). The band's name comes from their favourite character in the film '' Grease''. Moshi Moshi Records is a small London-based record label founded in 1998 by Adrian Pike, Michael McClatchey and Stephen Bass. The label has released music by bands including Lykke Li, Fimber Bravo, Bloc Party, Hot Chip, Late of the Pier, Hot Club De Paris, Kate Nash, Florence and the Machine, Architecture in Helsinki, the Wave Pictures, Disclosure, Sweet Baboo, Tilly and the Wall, Blue Foundation, Slow Club, Happyness, and Au Revoir Simone. Lauren Laverne
Lauren Cecilia Fisher (née Gofton; born 28 April 1978), known professionally as Lauren Laverne, is an English radio DJ, model, television presenter, author and singer. She was the lead singer and additional guitarist in the alternative rock band Kenickie. The group's album '' At The Club'' reached the top 10, although her greatest chart success came when she performed vocals on Mint Royale's single "Don't Falter". Laverne has presented numerous television programmes, including '' 10 O'Clock Live'' for Channel 4, and ''The Culture Show'' and coverage of the Glastonbury Festival for the BBC. The groundhog (''Marmota monax''), also known as a woodchuck, is a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots. Spraydog are an English band that formed in 1994 in Chester-le-Street and Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Biography Formed around 1994, Spraydog have released five studio albums, (4 on their own Ferric Mordant label), nine EPs on Beautiful Pigeon Records, and numerous singles and compilation contributions on a variety of independent labels including Fierce Panda, Stupidcat and Fortuna Pop! Their most recent album, ''Karate Summer Camp'' was released in late 2006. They have recorded two BBC Radio 1 sessions for DJ John Peel. Spraydog kick-started their career touring with the band Kenickie and continue to play live both in their home town and occasionally elsewhere in the UK and Europe. Tyne And Wear
Tyne and Wear () is a metropolitan county in North East England, situated around the mouths of the rivers Tyne and Wear. It was created in 1974, by the Local Government Act 1972, along with five metropolitan boroughs of Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, Sunderland, North Tyneside and South Tyneside. King Of Woolworths
The Advisory Circle is an alias of English electronic musician Cate Brooks (formerly known as Jon Brooks) along with King of Woolworths. Her releases as The Advisory Circle are on the Ghost Box Music label. The Advisory Circle's first release was ''Mind How You Go'', issued as a 3" CD in 2005. An extensive feature in '' The Wire'' magazine explored Brooks' fascination with public information films from the 1970s. They describe their sound as "Everything's fine, but there is something not quite right about it."
