J. W. Lockett
J. W. Lockett (February 23, 1937 – December 14, 1999) was an American football fullback in the National Football League (NFL) for the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Colts and the Washington Redskins. He also was a member of the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football at the University of Central Oklahoma. Early years Lockett attended Booker T. Washington High School, where he received all-state honors in football, baseball and basketball. After graduating, he played one season of minor league baseball in the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system, before moving on to the University of Central Oklahoma. He became a four-year starter in football, playing guard and center as a freshman and as a two-way player at tight end and defensive end in his last three years. 1961 NFL Draft
The 1961 National Football League draft took place at the Warwick Hotel in Philadelphia on December 27–28, 1960. The league would later hold an expansion draft for the Minnesota Vikings expansion franchise. This draft was also the first regular draft for the Dallas Cowboys as they had only participated in the 1960 NFL expansion draft that year. The Cowboys held the worst record in the NFL the previous season, but selected second in this draft because the expansion Vikings were awarded the first overall pick. In sports or activities in the United States, a letterman is a high school or college student who has met a specified level of participation or performance on a varsity team. Defensive end (DE) is a defensive position in the sport of gridiron football. This position has designated the players at each end of the defensive line, but changes in formation (American football), formations over the years have substantially changed how the position is played. Tight End
The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers. On the other hand, unlike offensive linemen, they are eligible receivers adept enough to warrant a defense's attention when running pass patterns. Guard (American Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center.
