J. R. Murray
John Rose Murray (19 December 1898 - 2 May 1991) was a Ceylonese accountant and politician in Colonial Ceylon. John Rose Murray was born on 19 December 1898 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, the youngest of four children of John Rose Murray, engine fitter, and Helen née McLeod, domestic servant. In September 1929 he married Hilda Beatrice Cooper (1911-2015). They had four children: John Telfer McLeod (b.1929), a daughter and two other sons. In May 1947 they travelled to Ceylon on board the RMS Scythia from Liverpool. A chartered accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, he was appointed as a member of House of Representatives of Ceylon on 6 June 1952, serving until his resignation in March 1958. Murray was the Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce on several occasions between 1950 and 1955. British Ceylon
British Ceylon ( si, බ්රිතාන්ය ලංකාව, Britānya Laṃkāva; ta, பிரித்தானிய இலங்கை, Biritthāṉiya Ilaṅkai) was the British Crown colony of present-day Sri Lanka between 1796 and 4 February 1948. Initially, the area it covered did not include the Kingdom of Kandy, which was a protectorate, but from 1817 to 1948 the British possessions included the whole island of Ceylon, now the nation of Sri Lanka. Comely Bank (; gd, Bruach Cheanalta, IPA: pɾuəxˈçɛnəɫ̪t̪ʰə is an area of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. It lies southwest of Royal Botanic Garden and is situated between Stockbridge and Craigleith. It is bound on its northernmost point by Carrington Road and on its southernmost point by Learmonth Terrace. The area is covered by Stockbridge and Inverleith Community Council. History The ground was originally part of Sir William Fettes' estate. The original development was a terrace of Georgian town-houses built to face the main east–west road leading to Stockbridge. Taunton Deane
Taunton Deane was a local government district with borough status in Somerset, England. Its council was based in Taunton. The district was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, by a merger of the Municipal Borough of Taunton, Wellington Urban District, Taunton Rural District, and Wellington Rural District. Taunton Deane was granted borough status in 1975, perpetuating the mayoralty of Taunton. The district was given the name of an alternative form of the Taunton Deane Hundred. In September 2016, West Somerset and Taunton Deane councils agreed in principle to merge the districts into one (with one council) subject to consultation. The new district would not be a unitary authority, with Somerset County Council still performing its functions.
