This is reflected in the names of certain Sound change, phonological changes, such as Phonological history of English consonant clusters#Yod-dropping, ''yod-dropping'' and Phonological history of English consonant clusters#Yod-coalescence, ''yod-coalescence''. The palatal approximant can often be considered the semivowel, semivocalic equivalent of the close front unrounded vowel . Joule
The joule ( , or ; symbol: J) is the unit of energy in the International System of Units (SI). In terms of SI base units, one joule corresponds to one kilogram- metre squared per second squared One joule is equal to the amount of work done when a force of one newton displaces a body through a distance of one metre in the direction of that force. It is also the energy dissipated as heat when an electric current of one ampere passes through a resistance of one ohm for one second. It is named after the English physicist James Prescott Joule (1818–1889). Definition According to the International Bureau of Weights and Measures the joule is defined as "the work done when the point of application of 1 MKS unit of force ewtonmoves a distance of 1 metre in the direction of the force." In terms of SI base units and in terms of SI derived units with special names, the joule is defined as One joule is also equivalent to any of the following: * The work required to ...

J (element)
Iodine is a chemical element; it has Chemical symbol, symbol I and atomic number 53. The heaviest of the stable halogens, it exists at Standard temperature and pressure, standard conditions as a semi-lustrous, non-metallic solid that melts to form a deep violet liquid at , and boils to a violet gas at . The element was discovered by the French chemist Bernard Courtois in 1811 and was named two years later by Joseph Louis Gay-Lussac, after the Ancient Greek , meaning 'violet'. Iodine occurs in many oxidation states, including iodide (I−), iodate (), and the various periodate anions. As the heaviest essential Mineral (nutrient), mineral nutrient, iodine is required for the synthesis of thyroid hormones. Iodine deficiency affects about two billion people and is the leading preventable cause of Intellectual disability, intellectual disabilities. J-coupling
In nuclear chemistry and nuclear physics, ''J''-couplings (also called spin-spin coupling or indirect dipole–dipole coupling) are mediated through chemical bonds connecting two spins. It is an indirect interaction between two nuclear spins that arises from hyperfine interactions between the nuclei and local electrons. In NMR spectroscopy, ''J''-coupling contains information about relative bond distances and angles. Most importantly, ''J''-coupling provides information on the connectivity of chemical bonds. It is responsible for the often complex splitting of resonance lines in the NMR spectra of fairly simple molecules. ''J''-coupling is a frequency ''difference'' that is not affected by the strength of the magnetic field, so is always stated in Hz. Vector model and manifestations for chemical structure assignments The origin of ''J''-coupling can be visualized by a vector model for a simple molecule such as hydrogen fluoride (HF). In HF, the two nuclei have spin . Four st ...

J/ψ Particle
The (J/psi) meson is a subatomic particle, a flavor-neutral meson consisting of a charm quark and a charm antiquark. Mesons formed by a bound state of a charm quark and a charm anti-quark are generally known as " charmonium" or psions. The is the most common form of charmonium, due to its spin of 1 and its low rest mass. The has a rest mass of , just above that of the (), and a mean lifetime of . This lifetime was about a thousand times longer than expected. Its discovery was made independently by two research groups, one at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, headed by Burton Richter, and one at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, headed by Samuel Ting of MIT. They discovered that they had found the same particle, and both announced their discoveries on 11 November 1974. The importance of this discovery is highlighted by the fact that the subsequent, rapid changes in high-energy physics at the time have become collectively known as the "November Revolutio ...
